Jeep ATF

I have a 1997 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 and its time to change the tranny fluid again. Last time I followed the specs and refilled with Dex/Merc 3 But I have heard that ATF+4 or ATF +3 may be better; and or that it may have been a typo in the owners guide. Does anyone have any good input about fluid choice? The tranny shifts great and doesnt slip.

If you are talking the regular Cherokee, not the Grand, then you have an AW-4 transmission, not a Chrysler transmission. It is an EXCELLENT automatic, and is bulletproof, so count yourself lucky (why can't this company make a larger version for our diesels???). You don't need +3 or +4, just what the manual reccomends. FYI- these transmissions are known to go 200K+ miles easily, and breakdowns are very, very rare.
