I'm posting up information for those wanting to help with the relief efforts. I'm going to be packing up some stuff myself as soon as I've got this information cross-posted.
If you can't donate money to the Japanese earthquake/tsunami relief effort, please note the following information. This is from the ombudsman for Naval Hospital, Yokosuka.
You can send items to these addresses through your local neighborhood Japanese Post Office - they really need -
1. Food (instant foods, dietary supplements, baby foods);
2. Warm blankets (That north part of Japan is still really cold now); ...
3. Clothing;
4. Baby clothes, and DIAPERS!!!!

You will have to pay postage at USPS site and fill out the customs forms. Speaking from experience, Priority and Express mail takes 1-2wks to arrive in country from the States. If you send it any other way it will take weeks longer to arrive. I know postage costs can increase. Use those flat rate Priority boxes and stuff the heck out of them yall.
Please folks, if you can help, do it. I know the big heart of our community, at the very least, pass the information along.
THANK YOU!

My wife and I are heading over to the Costco this evening to pick up some stuff to ship over....I am afraid to send money because that always seems to end up in somebody's pocket rather than where it needs to go.

Roger that. I was wanting to go over but I don't think it'll be possible not being part of an official SAR organization. I wish my Nihon friends well.
OK My wife and I sent out a total of $2300.00 in supplies and shipping costs to Japan in hopes it helps someone find some kind of peace in all this mess. That was the amount of one of my Ira's I was going to purchase this year but there is always next year instead
Come on folks, show those poor people what Americans are REALLY made of

No major stores around here so we are taking a chance and splitting up the donation between Doctors without Borders, International Committee of the Red Cross and Save the Children (japanquake).

Any one think about taking a family in from Japan that has been displaced by the quake, it's most likely it will be at least a year or more before any one will have any think called a home

You folks are awesome, your generosity and effort is truly appreciated.
I think it'd be such a neat thing to host a JP family. Having been there and have them take us in to their community while on our tour, it'd be a special opportunity. As for them learning Ego Hillybilly style, you guys would be in for a total surprise!
