It's Cold !

These were taken around 00:30. I have never seen my truck thermometer this low. The truck ran different and it sure didnt like starting up even after being plugged in for a couple hours. it also ran kind of like crap, i guess it is because of the intake temp being so low. i also had cardboard covering the radiator along with a front cover.

Add a bit more anti gel and give the Block heater atleast 4 hours unless you have an oilpan heater and something for the battery. You'll be fine. Might want to keep a spare fuel filter and the nessisary tools in the truck in case you gell up and need to chang it away from home/shop.

yea i had it plugged in for about 8 hours +/-. I started it up to bring it into the shop to warm up. And it made all sorts of weird noises i have never heard before. Radio screen was all messed up and i couldn't read anything on edge monitor. i gave her a bit of the white power service. I also put those foam beer holders on the air dog fuel filters. I bought one of those prop rods from the the Mac guy to put between the go pedal and the seat, man those are nice put the truck up to 1300 rpms for about 20 mins. This is supposed to be the coldest night in 5 years around here.

She is setting inside here at work, I will be putting some cardboard in before I venture back out.

Not to far from that...we were at -15* up near Cardington OH this morning. Had the truck plugged in all night and started fine but took along time to warm up.

I've found that the power steering pump makes the most racket when cold. If the engine is cold too (not plugged in) then it makes more interesting noises.

All the diesel owners at work have been parking near the three power poles we have, shop doors, and anywhere else they can get their extension cord.

below -5 or so I find a battery charger is a nice addition to the block heater... helps keep the batteries fully charged

Tonight was worse

thats a shot of -29* i saw 30 below a couple times but the roads were too bumpy. As you can see i was having a hard time keeping my intake temps up they were starting to drop to 35 degrees so i slowed down and kept the boost down to bring the temp back up. I hate this truck makes all kinds of weird noises, mileage goes down the drain, and truck just doesnt run good. this is supposed to be the last night of this crap, tomorrow they are saying a high of +6* !

If it makes ya'll feel anybetter, it is still +50*- in Fairbanks AK. I've been cruisin' with the windows down.

For the noisy Powersteering, try thinning the fluid with some aviaton hydraulic fluid.

Also for those of you who drive to work with an empty truck, They WILL NOT get warm in the sub zero temps unless you put a load on them. Nature of the beast. I pull my fan off when the temps go down and staydown. It helps a bit...

Here is an article from Foxnews. Says it was colder in Alabama today than Alaska. Lopsided weather we're having. But it's still 66º here in SoCal today. I'll take my strong Santa Ana's as opposed to the bone biting wind chills the eastern part of the country are experiencing. Ya'll bundle up out there, ya hear?
