info on ticks

My dogs is getting ticks from the yard. Question is...what is the harm of letting these ticks latch on and stay on for a few days? What is the end result? I saw one that was pretty big. (BB size) I wanted to try and pull it off. Got home from work, the tick is gone. Same place. just remnants of it. I guess the dog rubbed up against him and either crushed it or dislodged it.

What happens now? Anything real bad?

Hasn't been on frontline since last season. Will put him back on it now.

Thanks

Ticks

If these are by chance deer ticks your dog can be infected with lyme disease. Also your dog being a carrier of ticks can come in from the outside and the ticks can get on you also. Not good for anyone. You also can be infected. I know of at least 3 people including my wife who had lyme disease. Two are on life time meds. Be very careful and check yourself and family
members for ticks daily. They love warm areas on your body. !!!!!!!! From a New Englander that frequents Cape Cod Ma and has seen a number of cases. Don't take this lightly. If you have been bitten , get to a doctor. A bullseye rash can develop and spread the size of a dinner plate, that's what my wife had. Dog tics are larger than deer tics and have spots on there back. Deer tics are even dangerous in the larvae state. Google search for more info, you will be amazed. Careful. Roger M.

Brown dog tick only uses the dog as a host. They can carry others though. Don't let the brown dog tick get infested. They can be hard to get rid of. They can transmit diseases to your dog.

Looks like your on top of it by getting the frontline. We get them bad around here but seems the last two years around my immediate yard were not so bad. We let our chickens free range and seems to be alright without the use of chemicals. You could get out and get some chemicals to treat your yard. I was always bad because I would overdose, environmentalists nightmare.

Now is a good time to put down an initial blast of chemicals. With the rain of spring you'll get it seated in the ground good and get the little blood suckers early, then retreat around June or July.

jj,your in New York and you have ticks already?? WOW! that's hard to believe. I didn't think they started to be a problem that far north until June or July. I live in North Carolina and i am a bridge inspector for the DOT. We start seeing what we call seed ticks usually about late April or May. Depends on how soon the weather stars to warm up. Any kind of tick is is something to be concerned about. Spray your yard and debug the dog. Good luck! p.s do you gave red bugs? (chiggers) They are bad down here depending on what county your in. I got ate up bye them last summer and it wasn't fun.
