I upset someone over running my truck today!!!

This morning I gave the girlfriend a ride out to school (going to college to be a RN) since I had to do some work to her truck. This afternoon I got in my Dodge to go pick her up, its about a 8 miles drive on the interstate to the school from the house.
So i pulled into the school lot and was sitting off to the side waiting for her to finish up. I noticed my exhaust temp was still a bit high from cruzin down the highway, so i let it idle to cool things down a bit. It wasn't 2 minutes and this lady walks up to me, ranting and raving how im "giving off gasses that are harming everybody around me" and I should "shut my truck off" or "move to the back lot if I have to run my truck so bad" I simply told her that I was NOT going to move nor was I going to shut it off, and I was NOT breaking any law what so ever. She said right to my face "Its people like you that ruin the earth and everybody's health"
This really upset me! As she started to walk away I turned the Quadzilla up to Stage 3, and hit the smoke switch, and I proceded to push the GO pedal to the floor. The stacks shot 2 very impressive black clouds.
After this she had nothing to say at all and tromped into the building.

Guys! What are some of these people thinking!!!!

I thought most of you would like to hear this story, so I just had to share!

Nice, you know that wasnt the end of it on her part. She probably went to the staff at the school, writing a letter to congress and possibly to the EPA. Ive come across people like that. She must have had a bad ride to school and misdirected the anger.

it's people like her thats brainwashing our kids. so don't agonize her. you should of said that to properly take care of your engine, you need to idle it for a couple minutes. and that did she know that diesels the size of yours produce less that half of the co2 of a compact car.
and if you were to use bio-diesel, you would cut that by 90%, and have no sulfur dioxide emissions. which her car emits.
tell her that if she really cared about the environment, she should buy a vw diesel tdi.
that would at least make her think some. and maybe correct her enviromental attitude, and she might just stop trying to brainwash others.
remember the movie road house, be nice, until you have to be, not nice.

That is indeed the best advice.

Nothing like giving the enviro-wackos more ammunition to use against us. Save the smoke for those who will appreciate it, not use it against you.

Nope, only convertibles. J/K.

I was filling my truck up at a fuel station a while back. The diesel pumps were off to the side a little bit in their own island. I had a guy tell me to shut my truck off while fueling up. I kindly told him to urinate into a head wind. I guess he didn't know diesel isn't all that volatile coming out of the pump.

I do see alot of people in the summer sitting at stop lights next to me roll up their windows. With my truck being so high my exhaust is close to their face. I' m sure they don't like the sound but I think it's more so the smell, if your not used to it burnt diesel will irritate the heck out of your eyes & sinuses.

Maybe you smoked that lady out on the way to dropping off your GF and she wanted to chew ya out?

I had a girl tell me to "Shut my truck up" one time when the GF and I went into Chicago. Guess she thought it was too loud. Both of us just shook our heads and drove off.

My reply to people complaining about my truck is "if you wanna buy me a nice car to drive instead, I will, but untill you come off your money, shut up while you still have a choice about it". I do apologize at the drivethru's though, dont want people making my food mad at me .

I work at a university and I actually ride my bike to work year round (keeps me in shape and I get much better parking). We have a lady here who thinks my truck pollutes too much, until I educated her on the costs (environmental and monetary)of the Prius that she so desperately wants and asked hew what is she going to do with that big old battery pack in 5 years when it won't hold a charge? Plus, I told her that with all the gas money she's saving she should put away about another $7,000.00 (on top of the $5,000 premium she will pay for the car initially) for a new battery pack. Doing the math, a prius does not make sense, if you want good fuel economy, go by a honda civic and in the long run you'll be money ahead.

If I were to design a hybrid, it would be a high efficiency diesel turbine engine driving 4 smaller electric motors, 1 on each wheel... (but then, what do I know...)

I had the same darn thing happen to me. I knew the truck wouldn't shut down anyway with the cool down timer so I turned the truck off and showed her the key and said " I don't think it wants to.'

Blowing the smoke was a bit of a bonehead move.
But idling your truck is not a sin unless you live in California.

What we all have to understand is our trucks will soon be on the chopping block as for enviromental protection. No matter what we think we can justify. It is not a right to own a big diesel truck. It will be a sad day when we have to turn in the keys for a smaller more econmical vehicle.

I've seen people do a double take at the smell coming out of my tailpipe- usually smells like a bag of Chinese food set on fire. It doesn't smoke as much as #2 diesel does, but it definitely leaves an impression. Especially if the oil came from a Philippino fish joint.

I had a treehugger lady that I know through my work bake me a plate of really good toll house bars when she learned I make and use biodiesel. She said that the environment appreciates it and she didn't think that someone as conservative as me would be concerned about the environment. I told her as a hunter and fisherman, I'm probably more concerned about the environment than she was (I didn't add that I'm certainly more realistic about it), plus it costs me less than a buck a gallon to make, and it doesn't put a dime into the hands of oil-producing countries that hate us.

I also hinted that I'd start using baby seals and kittens for fuel if the cookies ever stopped coming.
