I truely believe slotted rotor's saved live's!!
I truely believe slotted rotor's saved live's!!
I wasn't sure where to put this since it fall's under all year's, so I hope it's ok here.
I was going down the highway doing about 65, while pulling my 3 car trailer fully loaded. Suddenly traffic came to a screaching hault. I had nowhere to go. I just new I was going to hit the car in front of me.
I slammed the pedal with both feet. Thank God I had just changed out my rotor and pad's to the slotted rotor's and pad's from ART. I have had many panic stop's like that in the past, but never have I thought I was really going to hit someone. What was amazing is I felt the brake's grabbing so well. And I know it was this set-up because I have had many differant combination's of factory rotor's and differant pad's. Never before have I had this kind of stopping power. I could feel the new pad's really grip the minute I first put them on.
I tell ya what guy's. I was never so rattled in my life. I was actually shaking from the expierance. I know there are mixed review's on weather or not slotted rotor's are worth the money. I truely believe if I didn't have them, going the speed I was going, someone may have been killed, or at least seriously injured. And that is no bs.
So for those of you on the fence about spending the extra money, in my opion, it's well worth it. I know there's several differant company's out there selling these thing's. I did the shoping, and the one's that Diesel Manor.com sell's were the best set up for the best price. The pad's are actually the Carbon Friction pad's that Autozone sell's. So they will be available anywhere in an emergency. So do your shopping, and if you decide on the ART's from Diesel Manor, tell em Calvin said how good these were.

Great post. I too am in the same boat as you. I once had that however it was my father behind me. I saw nothing but smoke from the truck and trailer and it spooked the h*** outa me. Most people skimp on this or that, and spend a few bucks on this, but brakes are not one of them. When mine are do I believe I'm going to throw on rotors and pads.
Great writeup, glad your ok. Did the pants you were wearing make it ok?

BB, are you 4wheel disc or like me with rear drums? If your drums get any plans on upgrading the rears? I have the 1 ton cylinders and thinking of trying the rear disc brake conversion, but still on the fence.
Man that read just like a good COMMERCIAL!! You could sell a Ketchup Samich to a woman wearing a white Dress!!!!!! lol------- I have and will always install slotted rotors on all of my High Performance Vehicles because of the High Heat Discipation------ BUT------ I DO NOT DRIVE to close or to fast when I'm TOWING my High Per Form Veh's!!!!! Buckle Up and Slow Down---- it saves lives!! JB ------ In your case though-- stick with the new Slotted Rotor's and Pads--- you saved a couple of lives by doing that. Merry Christmas!!!
I have been looking for better stopping power. I am glad you are O.K. and no one got hurt. Been in similar situations and it is scary.
Not wanting to play devils advocate here but is there any research data to support slotted rotors improvements over conventional rotors, other than sales pitch from suppliers?

Most of the newer Brake Kits have been tested and have shown MINOR Improvements without a load. This meaning that the stopping distance was improved by 2 feet or more in testing!! BUT---- These High Performance Brakes will be better in Intense Braking Situations like coming off a mountain and being on the brakes constantly. Heat Dissipation is the key to longer braking ability. Yes these new brakes are better then what you have OEM------how much better and will you ever need them is a question that you have to answer!!!!

(Like I have never down that.)
