I doubt they will total it. Thats around a 40k truck isnt it? That at the most is probaly a 12k job. At least were I work. To bad you werent closer to me. My boss often works with people to help "save" rigs from getting totaled.

Dont worry. Unless the frame is buckled I can see that rig getting totaled.

well, i finally just got my insurance to start fixing my truck. her insurance is moving PAINFULLY slow.....so my ins will fix the truck (less my $1000 deductible ) and then they'll go after her insurance to recover their (and my) money. HOPEFULLY they'll start on it this week. prob take two weeks to get it back up to snuff.

i got my gauges in the mail from dieselmanor...i set in the floor and imagined how awesome itll be to get my truck back to install them

Yeah, she has insurance. Unlike the woman that rear ended my wife's 4Runner... She says it wasn't her fault she hit us. Cause we stopped first. I was like "yeah we stopped stupid. The light was red." No liscence or insurance. $1000 out of my pocket to fix it.

But at least you are ok, and they will be able to fix your baby.

as long as my ins gets reimbursed form hers, they will reimburse me my $1000. body shop called just while ago and said the adjuster came out and they needed the "green light" (pun intended ) to get started. sposed to be 2-3 weeks .

icechest had plenty of stuff in it , nuthin even iced down or anything , it was from a trip out to the river fishing the weekend before.

ins is finally fixing my truck while the 2 copanies argue over whos fault it was. becasue of the way the cab was damaged, theyre cutting a piece of cab including the entire back door frame and half the front from another truck and splicing it in . i called to complain to insurance and was promptyl (and rudely) filled in that there are laws giving them the right to use "recycled parts"

anyway, if/when her insurance accepts liability, im gonna make a claim for the depreciated value of the truck, as well as for the 1 month + of down time. what do u think the change in value will be after a wreck on a 15000 mile 6 month old truck?

Hey man Im sorry about youre baby , but glad you are ok.
What insurance company do you have? When I smashed my front end, The body shop told me that It was there right to use used parts on my rig. So I told them to make a space in there shop because I if they did use used parts I would become a fixture there. Needless to say I have all new mopar fender, bumper and lights etc. I know in your position It would be harder but I said I would keep looking at other shops untill I found one that would take care of me.
Either way good luck and god bless....Jay.....

There were a few posts that were not on subject that were moved to the non-public portion of the site.

When MY truck was in the body shop, I, and not the insurance adjuster, was in the 'driver's seat'.
I told him before any work was performed, that I would accept NO aftermarket/used parts to be used on my truck.
I've been with State Farm since '74.
Call your agent's office first and let them know you're not pleased, then if nothing changes, the adjuster's office and talk to his supervisor.

HUH?

I split the thread, moving several posts to an Admin only forum.
I left that message so the members wouldn't wonder where their posts went.

Is that what you're asking?

Sorry you had the bad luck.

Let me share with you an experience of mine:

I had a new truck built to order-- it was wonderful. I was in "heaven." After 6 days of bliss, a clueless Hispanic guy rear ended me in CO hard enough to kink the frame rails over the axle. His name was on the insurance card, but oddly enough, he was a "restricted driver" according the Progressive (30+years old and driving mom and dad's car, no doubt living at home). So I guess that made him technically uninsured.

HE rear-ended me. HE was in the wrong. HE was uninsured. HE was breaking the law.

But *I* lost almost $5K when they totalled my truck. Yes, the first lesson here is to have gap insurance if you are way upside down like I was.

But there's a much bigger lesson-- one that we as car and truck guys don't want to admit. The truth is, that vehicle is just steel, plastic, and rubber. There are many like it on the road. It can or will disappear in a heartbeat. Rust happens. Idiots running lights happens (all the time in Tampa, but that's another post). Dents happen.

So enjoy your truck, and treasure every minute you have with it. But ALWAYS remember that it's JUST a truck, and if you don't have a source of happiness that's deeper and more permanent than a truck that can be taken from you in an instant, you are in a bad situation. Never let you happiness be tied to something that can be so temporary.

Through a long rigamarole, I ended up not only losing the $5K on the truck, but getting bad credit due to an unscrupulous car dealer who was all too eager to "help me out". I've since made good on all debts, plus interest-- and my credit is recovering at the rate these things happen (which means, slowly).

shovelhead,
no prob, thanks for clarifying. again, wasnt griping, just curious.

i am with state farm as well. my agent is pretty good. but its the chuckleheads at th main office that have been giving me the Joan Collins' special. frankly, im not sure if an entire replacement cab would be much better. at this point, i think im just going to let ir ride but go over it with a fine tooth comb and make sure everything is 100%. ive had state farm since i started driving, but right now, im not overly happy with them. as of friday, they hadnt even contacted her insurance yet which tells me theyre not really hurrying to recover my (and their) money.

Hohn,
i know what you're saying. and i agree, it is just a possession and in the grand scheme of things, not that big of a deal. i am very much a motor sports enthusiast of all kinds and take pride in what i have. i have worked hard to get what i have and just hate to have it blow up in my face (or smashed in my face more accurately ). that being said, i do have a greater source of happiness from family and friends and the family that i hope to build in the not too distant future. of course, i have made it clear to her the truck and i are a package deal, neither of us go without the other but...i do see what ur saying. i did not mean to be over dramatic and make a bigger deal out of this than it is.....OTOH, im getting tired of driving that doggone jeep everywhere
