a turbo buick buddy of mine surprizingly called me tonight around 7:00pm CST 10:00 IN JAPAN

turns out he is stationed on the base in okinawa, JAPAN living life as anyone else there would be.

he is in the airforce, been there for 1.5 months and had alot of crazy stories to reveal ... so we talked for about one hour on lots of topics- 15-20 different things from what he has seen and dealt with there in JAPAN.

its an entirely different world over there!!! [undecided]
he says it looks like HAWAII, but feels nothing like home
and there are no american chicks except for on base!!!

well anyway, ive only recieved a few pictures of the beach from okinawa and they are really good pics-
i guess he is going to start sending me more pics from there(aka anything you guys want for the next few years)

I know I'll be going to Japan (Misawa or Okinawa) next Dec. Some of those pics would be great. I'll only be there for 6 months or so, but it'd be nice to know what I'm getting myself into. BTW, did he say if the Air Farce and the Navy are using the same base or not? I'd be curious to know.<br><br>-SFB

That plane looked like one on the Thunder Birds out of Nevada.<br>The last time is was okinawa they put me on a C130 and sent me to Cam Ranh Bay. Maybe the Air Force will let shortfieldbreak pitch a tent and dig fox a hole on the beach. They will save money by not having to pay the housing allowance and I am sure they can find some sea ration's for him to eat. Good luck with your TDY. If you need some information on the area I see what I can do for you. I have people going there ever few months for training.

 

I was in Okinawa about 4 times 2 years ago riding an amphibious ship on cruise. The Navy base is about 30-45 minutes away by bus in a little cove. It had the loooongest pier I have ever had the priviledge of staggering / crawling down back to the ship. Not much to see on that base.<br><br> The Chair Force base is pretty decent with a fair sized PX and commisary. Nice food court and &quot;local&quot; shop to pick up the last minute gift before you head home. Don't miss the Habu Saki (japanese wine with a real Habu snake inside ... poison makes it potent !!) Also possible to buy a Harley through the military right there. Might have had cars also, don't remember.<br><br> They have two or three clubs on base that have slot machines, Air Force women and lots of alchohol ... stay away from the jello shots <br><br> I made it out in town the last trip, and enjoyed my self. They are pretty savvy as to what GI's want and can communicate well enough to take care of business.<br> Over all, a pretty good spot to be. I didn't think it was like Hawaii though (stationed there for 4 yrs). Much better than Yokosuka, Japan.<br><br>PISTOL<br><br>PISTOL

 

PW- ANYTHING is better than Yokosuka.<br><br>DD- I joined the Navy just so I wouldn't have to dig foxholes, and eat terrible food,....and I'm flying P-3s so I'll be at some airport there, going back to my BOQ room when I'm done for the day. Even on a sea tour we get a real bed, real food, and can drop by the bar after work every night if we so choose. I knew P-3s were a good deal when I selected, but really had no idea until now. Now I can't wait to deploy to the middle east, tax free pay and BIG per diem. Gotta love it.<br><br>-SFB
