I lost Netscape...

There I was crusing the internet on netscape 7.2 watching some video's on a site. Closed both pages (I linked from another site) KAPOW! blue screen of death! Some mumbo jumbo about memory and downloading to disk with this something counting away. I watched this for a few seconds and shut it down. When I got it back up again, my netscape lost all it's settings, my email, bookmarks, the works. All gone.
I tried system restore (to no avail) All that did was screw up my McAfee. I have given up all hope of getting my settings back. So I uninstalled 7.2 and installed 8.1

Any one else ever had this happen to them? What would have caused this?

Sounds like a good time to switch to Firefox.

Giving it some serious thought. I spent the day digging through various folders on the computer to see if I could get my bookmarks back. I found some folders that contained some bookmarks, but clearly they were old folders that didn't contain everything I had. Just a little dissapointing as it is going to be tough to get everything back again....
Through some little miracle my mail address book is intact. I didn't even have to do anything to get that back.

Any recomendations on a mail client??

FireFox has worked well for me.
I have noticed that FireFox is a little more memory intensive than NetScape, but well worth the few more megs or ram.

Rich.

Do a search of your C:drive for Bookmarks.html. that's the filename that Netscape uses for bookmarks I think. Netscape, Mozilla and Firefox grew up out of the same codebase.

I use Outlook 2003 which comes with Microsoft Office but Outlook Express comes free with Windows and works very well.

I think that mozilla.org has an email client that's similar to Netscape's but I've never tried it.
