Unhappy I hurted my truck

I've been constructing a small workshop for my '36 Hudson and Terraplane this past Friday I came home with 25 sheets of exterior siding - tailgate down. I went into the back yard and put together three 2x4 wall frames and put them in place and then covered all that south wall with siding (24 feet long). I decided I would push the Hudson into the new shop (still with the tailgate down). I didn't see the small tree supported by a green metal fence post - called out here a t-post - behind me. I backed over it . I now have a 2" gash in the upper-right corner of my tailgate. I saw the damage yesterday afternoon after I emptied the bed. I was so depressed when I saw it.

I told my wife I was thing of painting a bandaid over the spot with droplets of blood below it.

I feel your pain. A few months ago I backed up in a tight area with the tailgate down and ran a part of it over a barbed wire fence. Now I have a few deep scratches and can blame no one but myself.

DW,
The bandaid brings back memories from the lat '70's. We were in the shipyard undergoing an overhaul. When the boat came in the yards, she had a set of bow planes on her. it was rather unique for a nuc boat to have them at that time. Anyway, the old man was gone to a school for an extended time and when he got back, the bow planes were gone (moved them to the sail) and in their place was a HUGE bandaid that someone had painted. He went through the overhead. He never did have much of a sense of humor.
On topic, sorry about the truck. Hope the booboo heals up soon.

I sell moving equipment and I was backing up to my automatic dockplate with a set of 16' moving ramps. I had the tailgate up and I put the auto dockplate out so it would drop to it's lowest position. This was all supposed to help me get the ramps out of my truck easier. Well the dockplate had a steel diamond plate surface which I thought was gonna clear my tailgate when I backed up. It didn't! Now I have about 15 deep gouges about 3" from the top of the tailgate which go from one end to the other.

Oh well, It's a truck...............

That's what I also told my wife - "It's A Truck".

I have some of that cheap 'chrome' tape that I put across the top of the tailgate to hide/cover the boo-boo. Doesn't look too cheesey. Wife suggested I put my "Cummins Power" plate over the hole. Might work.

After 85,000 miles and this is the first - oh, well. Probably many more to come.

I had my tailgate off my truck one day (don't remember why) and my dad ran over it with his Vette. Now I've got a nice crease in one of the corners. Another time, a buddy of mine was helping me hook up a trailer and he was moving to fast with it and SMACK!! Nailed the tailgate with the tounge of the trailer. It was the first dent or scratch my truck ever had. Oh well. It adds character.
