Its not the direct application that you use every day. Math keeps the mind sharp...your brain needs a workout just like any other part of your body. I want to take a refresher course in geometry. I forget most of the equations and I feel my brain has become lazy.

There are scientists doing studies that are starting to prove that keeping your mind sharp will help ward off Alzheimers.

You drive a train? That's cool, but what has that got to do with math?

Thats 50 milks at $13. We need to come up with 30 cents more but keep the same. Chocolates cost $.05 more, so we need 6 more cholates than whites in our current number.

34 * .25 = $8.50
16 * .30 = $4.80

= $13.30

I came up with the right answer using the Timmay2 method too, before I looked at any answers on here....

The formulas were a little over my head too.

But I had 34w and 16c no problem...

and incidently......I love chocolate milk!

Those kind of questions are soooo misleading ... it starts off so innocently talking about little school kids milk (awwww ... isn't that cute ?) ... and then thrusts you into quantum physics ... BAMMMM !!!!

I used to hate the ones about "how long would the shadow of a 25 foot tree be ?". Who cares ... as long as the deer can't see me hiding in the shadow and I end up with a bag full of venison jerky, I'm good with not knowing.

Cheers,

You never know when in real life you might wanna estimate the shade available at a park so you can bring just the right size table and invite the right amount of guests!

despite popular belief, quantum physics and rocket science isn't that tough...

least I didn't think they were. after all quantum physics deal with the physics of particle on the quantum state where they act in discrete steps. It looking at the analog world in digital...
