How to remove silicon rubber?
How to remove silicon rubber?
Anyone know of a chemical or solvent that easily removes silicon rubber without damaging painted metal? I use silicon on my chronically leaky oil drain plug and always have a hard time removing it after each oil change. (using silicon is much easier and less expensive than replacing the oil pan!)
I don't like to scrape it too much for fear of scratching the oil pan and eventually causing rust....
I have heard that gasoline works well.....
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Here is a thought from a beer infested, muddled mind.
A number of our deuce and a halfs and five tons have problems with the drain plug leaking. We've used copper washers between the pan and the drain plug. The copper is soft enough to forn a nice seal between the plug and pan and you dont have to worry about the silicon.

Why not just get a quick drain plug from Geno's...this will end the need to take the drain plug out once its installed
