How much is a Billion?

The human mind has a tough time understanding how much a billion is. Try this on for size.

1. A billion = 1,000 million

2. A billion seconds ago was 1959.

3. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

4. A billion hours ago Top was starting DTR! (Kidding!)

5. A billion US tax dollars ago was 8.5 hours.

When those politicains throw our money around in the billions we all need to listen and understand how much money we are talking about!

We know thats not true, I was setting the neighbors chicken coop on fire by burning ants in the dry grass with a magnifying glass about then

I learned all about indentured slavery after that incident as my father made me work nights and weekends at the neighbors farm till I dropped, to pay for that fiasco

And........you turned out to be a better person because of that!

I think most of us all have had "learning" experiences like that. I know that I did an it made me appreciate things a lot better. Kind of puts things in perspective!

you learned there was a consequence for your actions be it deliberate or accidental, a lesson that is seldom taught these days.

So we went from overtaxation to overspending. Doesn't sound like EITHER is what I want...

The tax intake during the Clinton administration was around 22% of the GNP, which is the highest it's ever been. Thankyou for the tax hikes. With Bush, it is running around 18%, which is where it traditionally has run, except during Vietnam and WW2. If the politicians don't get a handle on spending and entitlements it will soon have to be 25% to balance the budget, which is where some liberals would like to see it. I think it needs to be limited at 20%, max, and the politicians forced to balance the budget.

I agree to a certian extent.
"Balancing" is one thing, but the way they shuffle money around is sick. (read, rob Peter to pay Paul). I would like to see a highway bill with JUST highway spending not a buch of other crap or, (this is a GOOD one) how about a Social Security TAX that actaully gets used to fund the retirees that payed into it? Instead of all the cuts and shortcommings that we are and will be experiencing?
Sounds simple, huh?
