How Frampton did "Do You Feel Like We Do"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Frampton

Peter Frampton is famous for his use of the talk box in the 14-minute epic "Do You Feel Like We Do", and the shorter "Show Me the Way". The talk box allows the guitar sounds to be pumped into one end of a tube; the other end of the tube ends in the performers mouth next to the vocal microphone. When the guitar is played and the performer fashions his/her mouth as if speaking, the audial illusion of a "talking guitar" is produced.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk_box

A talk box is a musical sound effects device that allows a musician to modify the sound of a musical instrument by changing the shape of the mouth. The effect can be used to shape the frequency content of the sound and to apply speech sounds (such as singing) onto a musical instrument, typically a guitar (its non-guitar use is often confused with the vocoder) and keyboards.

A talk box is an effects pedal that sits on the floor and contains a speaker attached with an air tight connection to a plastic tube. The speaker is generally in the form of a horn driver, the sound generating part of a horn speaker with the horn replaced by the tube connection. The box has connectors for the connection to the speaker output of an amplifier and a connection to a normal instrument speaker. A foot-operated switch on the box directs the sound either to the talkbox speaker or to the normal speaker. The switch is usually a push-on/push-off type. The other end of the tube is taped to the side of a microphone, extending enough to direct the reproduced sound in or near the performer's mouth.

That song is what 30+ years old? You just now figured it out or are you asking how he did it? Was it a secret?

I'm not a real Frampton / David Bowie fan. Too out there for me when in this time fram you had great artists like Led Zeppin, ZZ Top, America, Doobie Brothers (oops), and many more great bands.

I like music you can dance to. Frampton wasn't much into dance music.

It was a talk box. I beleive it needs it's own amp, besides the guitar amp. You can order one at musiciansfriend dot com.

Styx was one of the first arena rock bands; they fit in with folks like Foreigner, Journey, REO Speedwagon and Boston. Simple, poppy, entirely enjoyable music with awesome stage shows.

Glam rock is more relevant to the likes of David Bowie, T-Rex, Iggy Pop and Elton John. More "artsy" and less overtly masculine...

Would this be 1973 Aerosmith or 1984 Aerosmith?
