How do I get oil out of my cloth seat?

I laid down a some sheets of paper towles and put wait on top to try soak it up and then tried to clean it with my carpet steamer. Still a good amount left. Any suggestions? Not that it makes a diffence, but this is on my 02 formula (I'll never take my firebird to the parts store again )

Use Dawn dishwashing detergent. Use a liberal amount with some water in a bucket as it foams up pretty good. Scrub with a soft brush. It breaks down oil real well. Then follow up with your carpet steamer to suck up the excess detergent. Good as new. Don't ask how I know. Heh-heh. -Glen

At least on the Dodge trucks, removing the seat cover from the inner foam is pretty easy...

I don't know about your Firebird, but if you can take the seat cover off, it would make it easier to clean because you could soak it in a bucket or whatever.

Dawn would probably be a good thing to try.

maybe WD-40 to break down the heavy part of the stain then wash w/Dawn. We used to use it to get tar off our feet from the beach.

There are several spot removers made for clothing an upolstery.

Resolve makes a carpet and upolstery cleaner that I have used on grease and oil in jeans. My wife uses a carpet spot remover on our clothes instead of Shout spot remover. Worth a try. Be careful with hot water, this will set a stain.

I had my seat re-covered and the guy that done it had a ball point pen blow up in his pocket and get ink all over the driver side, we tried all the common cleaners and it pretty much just spread the ink around. After trying quite a few things, I just hit it with some carburator cleaner and that took it right out. The stench was awful, so I then cleaned the seat with woolite and that took out the smell,

I ended up putting some bricks in a box, lining the seat with paper towles and using the box to keep pressure on the seat. While I washed and waxed the car I changed the paper towles several times.

When I couldn't get anything else with the press method, I scrubbed the seat with some foamy dawn and soped up the foam as I went. After many applications of this, I hit it with the steam cleaner several times.

The seat is still wet, but I think I got it all. We'll see, thanks fot the help, guys!
