Hey Hoss,
One thing to consider is a used CTD. If you go with a gasser, you are probably going to get worse mileage. I got rid of my 02 Chevy because of that. Just something to consider.

i had 2 cummins trucks before i got my 97, a 93 4x4 ex cab 3/4 ton and a 92 dually 4x4 reg cab. i sold these trucks to get a small truck with better miliage. told myself that i did not need a bigger truck. when i sold the 93 it had 250k on it and ran like a top, i bought a mitsubishie, what a pile of crap. same miliage as the dodge, no room and no power. sold it and got the 92 drove it and told myself again that i didn't need a big truck. bought a toyota 4x4, guess what the same miliage and way less room and power than i had. bought the 97 4x4 dually and there is no way i will dump it for a little truck. i just keep finding myself needing more truck when i have a little truck. it is kind of like 4x4, youi will be amazed how much you use it when you have it. and you will miss it bad if you go back to a 2wd.

It varies depending on how old it is and how many miles it has. They're asking $19K for the '99 I'm looking at and it has 63K miles on it. The oldest I've found so far is a 2WD '95 CTD and they're asking $3,999 for it. It really just depends on which one you're looking at. They have a lot of pre-owned '03 and '04 trucks that they'll gladly sell you for anything from $25K to $32K.

Don't forget that you have allready paid the greatest portion of your current vehicles depreciation! I'm not sure how long your financing term was but you may have little or no equity in that truck in which case you have just thrown the money away. In that case it may be better for you in the long run to stick with what you have. I totally understand the high monthly payment issue as well as being a good steward of your resources.

But...... Being the good steward may be riding it out, getting the truck paid for, drive as long as possible. Protect your investment.

Just go out and buy a big boat to pull so you can justify owning the diesel. It worked on my wife!

There is obviously a lot of interest in what will become of your bed liner.

Keep the truck, sell the bed liner.

The only way to get the bedliner is to buy the truck.

Hoss,
I feel your pain. I would like to reduce the amount of $$ flying out of my account on a monthly basis and have been looking at older, cheaper trucks to get out from under the debt. I'd like to retire as debt free as possible.

I have decided that in the long run, I would be better off keeping the truck that I have now, mainly because I know the truck and how it has been driven. I am afraid to inherit someone elses problems that could potentially cost me more money instead of saving it.

I, personally would stay away from the gasser if you can. I am spoiled by the performance of the diesel even though I don't often need the towing capacity.

Just my .02

That is EXACTLY how I feel and as a result, unless I run across a REALLY good deal on a used truck somewhere, I'm not longer planning to trade my truck in. There was a '99 Dodge CTD that I was considering but after seeing its service history it appears that it spent more time in the shop than it did on the road. I'm thinking I'm just going to keep what I have and pay it off early. I know mine doesn't have problems and I know that it has been taken care of.

Hoss buckle down and keep your truck. You know all about yours. When you buy used you do not know the entire story. Its like dateing a girl for the first time. How many streets has she been down, and like she tells the truth on that. Ya right, I sure dont. HAHAHAHA

Looked at your picture gallery and you make the mistake of posting pictures of your truck after you claim to have added the concrete bedliner. Truck is still setting at factory height in rear.

THIS IS PROOF OF NO CONCRETE BEDLINER. GOTCHA HOSS

I might consider trading my truck [70,000 miles] for yours, but I remember you called it a SISSY truck. So, just forget it.

Daniel
