Basket weaving....now THERE's an idea!! Do baskets make good weapons??

Well...at THIS point it cannot be disturbed except by anyone but me or my wife simply because it is WELL out of reach of my 18 month old boy...even if he were so inclined as to go get a chair to stand on (which he has done when he wanted to reach something).

I can't say that I wouldn't feel the same way you do had I been put in the same situation. However, I do think it is important to recognize what a person PERCEIVES as a threat may not actually be a threat...and you've done a good job at pointing that out. That is where the rules of gun safety come into play.

Yeah. lots. I've one more thing and I'm done. Back then I didn't posses the best gun handling knowledge nor did I recognize the threat for what it was. My point is more training can make all the difference. I was raised with guns and continue to target shoot often, and so I took guns lightly, perhaps too lightly. Once a weapon feels comfortable in the hand, it's an easy thing to sqeeze the trigger even when you don't have too.

Thanks for your input Nat. Regarding the training, I recommend that EVERYONE who owns a gun (ESPECIALLY those who have made the choice to carry one on a daily basis) go through some kind of formal training class.

What's that old saying...."when the situation comes up, you will NOT rise to the occasion but instead you will default to your level of training."

 

Home defense?? Well, I try to keep it so messy that only an experienced navigator like me can get around it without tripping and falling.

Seriously, I don't have any guns. I'd love to have a bunch, but it just hasn't happened yet. I'm totally comfortable around them (US military), but don't feel a real urgency to have one at home yet.

I live in Cheyenne, and violent crime is pretty rare indeed. Of course, there are those Mexican gangs in Greeley, and they seem to be making their way up this direction slowly.

I also live VERY close to I-80 (I could throw a ball across the Westbound lanes), and I think there might be some unpleasant personalities hitchhiking out there.

I HAVE had my truck "invaded". I think I accidentally left it unlocked. I could tell someone was in it because it WREAKED of cigarette smoke (I don't smoke, and don't allow it in my truck), and whoever had a lookie-loo inside left their cheap flashlight.

NOthing was missing, damaged, or even disturbed. I think a homeless dude may have been looking for some shelter for a night.

Either that, or my obnoxious neighbor decided to peer inside at why I had that plywood gauge box on the dash

I have a 5-6 pound miniature dashhound that barks untill you pet it, then she pee's on the floor when you do. I feel safe.

 

Hey...I don't know a single person who wants to be peed on by a 6 pound miniature dachshund. I'd say you're safe.

Well my defence is easy good neighborhood, far out in the woods.Long driveway ,screwy looking bridge.11 hybred wolfs,not dogs ,dont think of them as dogs either,1 of witch is in the house with the Malimute.My gaurd dog died this Mon due to old age 19 years.40 year old girlfriend with the hormon problem as well.3 swords varias long guns no shot guns,and a 1911 A next to my bed near my sword,and girlfriend.So in my opion Im ready.
