Seems like that thing wouldn't much more than get out of it's own way, never mind with a load on it.

Not a waste, just a different market. Pretty nice if you ask me.

I think youd be in the wrong market looking at 26,000 lb trucks with the idea of speed and high horsepower in mind.

great looking worthless truck!!! How would you pull a 5th wheel, hook it to the receiver hitch?? DT466 is a good motor and with that low power rating I am sure it would last

I'm wondering how well that would do off road. Hey - it's a 4x4 so it can go anywhere, right ???

For that kind of money I'd go buy a used Volvo or Freightliner or Int'l semi / single axle with a sleeper for around $40K to tow whatever the heck I wanted, and then go buy a Dodge CTD Megacab 1 ton as my daily driver for around $45K.

Then I'd go to Vega$ and blow the $30K remaining on - well, all kinds of stuff.

The freightliner Sport (for towing 5th wheels) is about the same price but is pure luxury. Has 800+ lbft of torque. The only rhing seperating me from one of those is $100k!

You know, I've wondered about those Freightliner and International mid-sized trucks' popularity. They have engines in the 300hp/800tq range, and, when 'loaded' run $100-$120K.

Why not just buy a 'loaded' single rear axle semi (Class 7?) sleeper cab, with the rear lounge setup, without the big cab fairing for about $100K? They can be purchased with leather, autoshift trannies, etc., and have engines with 500hp/1500tq.

And, correct me if I'm wrong, but they can be registered as RV's, so no CDL is required, correct?

Just wondering out loud on screen....

What exactly could you do with it though? Put 15,000 lbs worth of junk in the bed? Like someone else said you couldn't even pull a 5th wheel trailer...

No 4-door or 4WD options in most cases.

I think you would probably put a 5th wheel hitch in the bed or tow a big trailer. The only benefit I see over a 3500 is the braking capacity.

The one from Freightliner (and several others) has the 800 tq engine and are unbelievably well appointed. All leather, wood grain, air ride seats, 4 door etc. I talked to a guy in AZ that was towing a very large 5th wheel with it (beyond 3500 legal capability) and he said there was no comparison towing with that and a pickup. Much more stable, phenominal braking, and power OTA. I guess they don't even know a 5th wheel is behind it.

As far as using it for an RV, you could get one of the big rigs with the extended sleeper cab. Knew a guy who did trucking and he had one built for his truck (they extend the frame of the tractor) that would accomodate both he and his wife. Had a shower, bathroom, and kitchen, However, I would rather have 30' of RV towing behind rather than living in 8' of space of a sleeper cab.
