Hog Hunting in South Texas

If anyone from Texas would like to go Russian Boar (aka Wild Hog) hunting on Fri & Sat, Feb 6 & 7, on a 6800 acre ranch in South Texas (near Freer), please send me an email. I'll be leaving Friday morning from Ft Hood area and heading South. Cost for hunt and room in ranch lodge is $40 per night (active/retired military/DOD) or $50.00 per night as a guest of mine.

The hunt is done under full-moon conditions, at night, from a deer stand over feeders..

No, we are not going to be romping through the brush with dogs and trucks, hootin and hollin....sorry....

Let's go hunting......

Simply send me an email if interested.....

March dates are 4,5,6
Apr 1,2,3
May 6,7,8

Freer

A friend of mine has a 4000 acre ranch about 4-5 miles east of Freer on Hwy 44. Where is the ranch you are talking about?

Wish I could. Contemplating a Mauser reciever, after market barrel, Mannlicher stock, small calibre, flat shooter down the road. Perfect for a European hunt. Thinking maybe .223, 25-06, or .264 mag. A tuft of boar hair would make a nice little watch fob.

ranch location

At the HWY 16/44/59 light in Freer, head towards Laredo...when you get about 1.5 miles out of Freer, take a right at the blinking light (SH 44) and go down about 5-6 miles and make a right onto CR 401. The ranch is 13 miles down CR 401 , which is made of caliche, and back side borders the Neuces River and Terry Labonte's (Nascar) ranch.

It's run by NAS Kingsville MWR.....NAVY and Called ESCONDIDO RANCH...one side is used for airplane target practice.

I use to be able to go out every month when I lived in Corpus..

I shot a huge sow 2 weeks ago at my house. She was over 300 for sure. We weighed her guts\hide\head, and it measured 190lbs on my 200lb scale. i know there was atleast 100lbs of meat too. you do the math! she was just plain huge. she was traveling with 4 other sows. She was in back, and the one out front was bigger than her. They were running, and the only one I could get to stop was the back one. I dropped her in her tracks with a .300 winmag to the head @ 150 yds. at that time, the others kicked it into high gear. lol....

i never thought of the taxidermist pulling the teeth out a little.

btw....that was the biggest that I have ever killed. We got a boar in El Campo a few years back that was 250-300 lbs, and he had 4" tusks. My buddy kept him becuase they were his dogs....i wanted that head bad!!!!

In the state of Texas, all you need to hunt piggys is a valid hunting liscense.

Nice pig....I've got a brand new meat grinding machine for XMAS and haven't had a chance to break-in yet!

Texas Hunting License...and don't forget if your a youngster (born after Jun 1971) you have to have a HUNTER EDUCATION COURSE CETRIFICATE THis includes those ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY and those coming from another state.

There have been too many young Military personnel showing up without their Hunter Education cards and can't hunt... get really upset. They think they only have to go to Walmart and get a hunting license, but, when the Game Warden shows up ( and he does unannounced) you better have all your ducks in a row!

check out this site for some piggie photos:

Sweeny TX, that's over by Houston????

I thought that this year the rules changed for piggy. Now, if I read the rules right, if you are the landowner or have the landowner's permission, you do not need a license. Check out page 28 in the Outdoor annual:
Outdoor Annual

Here it is:
NEW LAW: A landowner (resident or non-resident) or the landowner’s agent or lessee may take feral hogs
causing depredation on the landowner’s land without having acquired a hunting license, but all laws and regulations governing hunter education still apply.

Might be a judgement call on the warden's part about who is a "landowners agent" or "lessee". Still, for the folks that would need the hunter safety card, sounds like that is still a requirement.

Yes, If you're a landowner and can prove the DEPREDATION, Meaning, the landowners crops are all torn up. Not that you have wild hogs on your property rootin in the woods some place. I would question a bunch of guys on someone's land without a hunting license. THe law says "his agent" NOT "AGENTS". And "lessee" doesn't mean having a Hunting Lease somewhere....
And If I were his agent, You'd bet I would have it in writing (his Social/Your Social, Phone Number, address etc) incase a gamewarden walke up on me! Either way, I would just buy a combo fish/hunting license and not worry about it.

My friend, and two others, are authorized to hunt deer year round in Conn because the deer are destroying fruit Orchards at a local farm. They have to have a special permit from the State over and above the landowner's piece of paper and carry it them at all times when hunting the Orchards.

Remember, the Game Warden set the fines, not the court system! And, the new law was enacted because a landowner was shooting hogs on his land last year and had to pay a penalty for not having a license.

Anyways, I'm still looking for someone to go hunting with down in South Texas.....and if your in South Texas, meet me at the Ranch!
