They didn't like anything about the 2012 except for its towing ability and payload capacity.
Kinda thought that was what we bought trucks for.

I wonder what their Top 10 would be. Wanna bet they are all Beemers and Mercedes. I have no doubt that an $80k luxury sedan will have better fit, finish and creature comforts. A Lear or Gulfstream probably gets higher ratings than an ultralight too.
My daily driver is a 2004 Toyoto Echo I inherited when my Mom pased away. It has automatic nothing. It is the base model. It does a great job of getting me to and from work most days of the year. I think my lawn tractor uses more gas per hour than the Echo. When I need big transportation due to weather or payload, I have my truck. Both vehicles are purpose built, as in I don't try to do 20 different things with them. If I were to sell them today, I wouldn't get much more than $15k for them combined. Compare that to any 1 of what Forbes would likely rate as their Top 10. I win.
My point to my mini-rant is that automotive writers don't have to live in the real world where you have to balance purchase cost, operating cost and requirements. They just get to drive vehicles handed to them by manufacturers and dealerships. As far back as I can remember, Chrysler has gotten poor grades from writers. I sold my Cordoba (I think it was a 1982) with 500,000km on the odometer. K-cars allowed a whole generation of families to afford a sedan. I could go on, but I suspect I am starting to ramble. I like my car and I really like my truck and I don't worry too much about what a publication like Forbes has to say. Rant off.

My senator sent me an e-mail bragging about the cash for clunkers thing. I wrote back and told her all it did for my family is totally hose the market we shop for vehicles.
Still can't get a decent daily driver for $1000. I was used to buying a car or van for $700 or less and putting 80K - 150K on em relatively trouble free. Tune, tires, batteries, and maybe a few suspension parts.
Bought a 91 Astro van 4.3 with 150K on it. Quit at 328K. Still ran good, Minnesota salt made all the doors fall off.

I have my truck for work (towing and payload capacity). I also have my honda cr-v for running around town and other work purposes.
I'm not sure what their scale is or reasoning for buying/owning a truck?

I think it's important to remember also that these test ratings are a couple people's opinions that are not a comparison to other vehicles. They are a comparison to a standard of perfection. Meaning your worst vehicle could actually be the best as compared to the other stuff as per application - just depends on what area of testing you wanna look at. Show me a truck that gets a perfect 10/10 on everything. Most of the time, all these vehicles are subject to the same standards of testing. Truck handling is measured up to the same number standard as sports car handling - doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out a 3/4 ton truck's not going to get a 10/10 in handling..... If you buy a 2012 RAM 2500 to drive around the city and I buy some fuel mizer import to do the same thing - you better bet that Ram's goanna loose out! So many city people drive big trucks now adays - which is just fine, but then don't complain about fuel mileage, handling, parking, too high, etc etc. Trucks are purpose built. You don't get perfect handling or ride on a truck designed for a payload. Hook 18k behind that top rated Honda and let's see how it handles!
So, they even used a picture of a Power Wagon (gas Hemi engine) under Ram Diesel.... hmmm.
Well, I'll have to admit that my Dodge rides much rougher than a Ford or Chevy equivalent. But that surely doesn't make it a "worst" buy. Besides, for creature comforts I have a MB S430. But the Benz can't tow a trailer worth crud.
It's all in the application. Oh, and I really like that "high step in".
