Nice Pics, could one of you Navy guys answer me a question?

I heard the catapult on an aircraft carrier could launch a VW Bug about a mile.. is there any truth to this?

No .... there's a video of an old junk car being launched off the deck of a carrier. Should give you some perspective.

But ... I bet it would be a wild ride if you were INSIDE the VW Bug !!!

Cheers,

I worked the cats on the USS Abraham Lincoln, CVN-72 ( see avatar) and we actually shot a VW bug off the cat for charity. I can't remember the exact distance it went but i can tell you it went off the cat at a bit over 220 knots ! it skipped acossed the water a few times and probably would have went off the end faster but the rear wheel fell off halfway through the cat stroke. A ramp woul dhave made it fly alot further because a VW doesn't have much lift no matter how fast it goes.. .. It was quite fun !!!!
