I'm seriously considering getting one in a few years. You can buy a used chassis yourself, I've found several on the internet, FL-60's and 70's with 8.3 Cummins in em with 100 or 2 thousand miles on em for around 20-30k and then all you need is the conversion. If you go with a small conversion, say 8-10 ft. I don't think it would be to high. Then I could get rid of my LQ horse trailer and haul more horses with the same length trailer.

Re:Here's my next truck!

Hey guys there is another site you can just call up and drool and their trucks are a little bit smaller www.cowboycadillac.com, the've got everything from single cabs to crewcabs to mega sleeper RV toters in every brand except Mack. Not sure how you post to just click on the address to make it go. Luke S had thought about just that very idea except I need 4 wheel drive and those things are rare and mega bucks. I had found some T600 KW's for around $15000 CDN with a 60" sleeper, 9 spd RR, L10/3176 Cat 3.70 tandems, easy conversion just drop front drive axle, shorten the frame, a little R+R smaller 5th wheel/deck and done. A little serious bombing (350-400HP/1000+ Torque) switch the 9 spd for a 10 overdrive and you already have an airride RV hauler that is built to tow. PK

Re:Here's my next truck!

Ya I don't need anything quite as big as what you are talking but an FL-70 with an 8.3 and a 9-speed would be great for me. And I don't need as big and fancy of a conversion as those one on that site. I could easily get by with a 8-10 footer. I have a place to get 92-96 International tandem car hauling tractors with the car racks taken off and L-10, 7-speeds, and rear air ride with 200-500k miles on em for $3,500-$6,000 depending on miles and condition. I don't know though. I think if I was crazy enough to do this I would buy a $20-30k truck and have something really good. I just wouldn't want to put a $20-40k conversion on a $5k truck

Re:Here's my next truck!

I think you would be really disappointed in the in IH, the wiring will drive a man to drinking, the heaters are medeocre along with the rest of the truck. The FL Freightshakers have worked out pretty good as this cab is used up line, I like the T300 KW or the Pete 330 as this is the same cab on the class 8 trucks with less creature comforts which can be added. The 330 Pete is also factory available crewcab using the aluminum/huck rivet design. What really makes these trucks better is one can work on most of the truck without being a watch mechanic, tilt hoods are wonderful, C channel frames that are straight to build decks on and standard configuration engine components. I think that is pretty slick. But I would rather just tow a big goose neck travel trailer. I think that would be a blast to go and travel with somthing like that. Maybe one day but is sure has hell won't be anytime soon unless I or someone in the family wins the lotto or something. But i can always dream though. -Anthony
