help w/ gas milage 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7l

my dad just recently bought a 2003 regular cab 1500, automatic, w/ the 4.7l, and 3.92's. He just called me and said that he is getting terrible milage (11mpg reading from the computer) he wants to know if there is any chip or programmer that will help w/ the milage. specifically if there is anything that can change the shift points in the transmission. he is not concerned whatsoever with performance. he is only concerned about gas milage

i already posted this question on a gas forum but decided to post it here too because of all the helpful people around here.

thanks
jason

I never had any luck getting mileage out of the 4.7, and there is no good products for the 4.7 either. Many have had to resort to camming and head porting to get better results, but that is $$$$$ and not woth it. The automatic tranny with the 4.7 is gutless, the tranny doesn't shift well or at the right points. Don't get a jet chip for it, it doesn't work for crap.
