I'd be [censored] about that

Me too.
I think I would have zip-tied it on the outside of the expanded metal before I cut it though.

Re:Help with Texas Plate Law

I just popped two holes in the checker plate on the lower drivers side of my front end replacement and mounted it there. It is angled right at them if they are coming at me.

I could have been a smartash and mounted it on the passenger side (angled away), but why needlessly irritate someone with a badge and gun? ;D

Yeah...that way you waste both your time AND theirs. : Nine times out of ten....if they WANT to write you a ticket they can find a reason to do so.

Theory

I've traveled around a fair amount and lived in quite a few places and have come to this conclusion (by no means scientific or researched!): States that share a border with Mexico and Canada require (and issue) 2 plates. Others may or may not (FL, for example).

Anyone else notice this?

No...but I've never been anywhere that wasn't Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Mexico, Arizona or Colorado.

Re:Help with Texas Plate Law

I always surmised that we had two plates so that the DPS could immediately tell who is from Louisiana or Oklahoma. ;D ;D

Re:Help with Texas Plate Law

Well, to add to your non scientific conclusion, Washington State requires two plates and of course, we're rather close to our Canadian neighbors. All this hassle over something like a front mounted plate. If you don't like it, change the law. We seem to be in the silly season for law changes. Why we just raised our gas taxes 5 more cents so we can not only be number one still but raised the ante again.

Gotta go fill up the truck before they change the prices again.

~Dave

Re:Help with Texas Plate Law

I don't think we could change the law in Texas. Some of our legislature might bolt the state and hide out somewhere else for a while if it were mentioned.

Re:Help with Texas Plate Law

I've been issued a couple warnings (2 in my Ranger, one in the Dodge) for no front plate, always from a DPS officer. For those that believe "friend of a friend" stories; my friends mom got a ticket for no front plate on her Vette, it was only $25 or so.

Re:Help with Texas Plate Law

Over here we have a law that states you have to have 2 license plates. They are really strickt about mounting angles etc. The fines aren't that bad if you are caught with just the angle incorrect, but if you do any offence and they have troubles finding you because your plate was mounted in a way to make it more difficult to read then it gets somewhat impressive. So many §s and so many €
This is a hint for Famousperson too- get a front license plate-or you'll spend much time on the road discussing that you didn't need one at home....
AlpineRAM
