Having fun with the IR thermometer
Having fun with the IR thermometer
Borrowed one from a friend. Neat to playwith!
My thermostat is opening at 160 degrees, thought the heater wasn't working like it should.
At idle after a drive home and idling a couple of minutes measured the temp of each exhuast port right on top. 2-6 were al right at 208 degrees, #1 was around 185, whats up with that?
Turbo was around 285 after idling for a couple of minutes.
Outside air temp was 27 degrees and the outside of the air duct before the intake was 78 degrees, this may be warmer than the actuall air temp inside since underhood heat can warm it to.
Need to point it at the trans and rear diff after pulling my jeep around and see what they say.
Sensor has a range up to 580 degrees F or something like that, Fluke 61.
Just to much fun

take it inside the house and run it across the windows... you can find many places that weatherstripping would help reduce bills. I love those things! I used to borrow them when I worked as a net admin at a cold storage warehouse. brandon.

I heard here that you can't get a very accurate reading with a IR meter pointed at the manifold. Mainly because its cast iron, can get rusty, is thicker in some spots, not exactly and ideal surface for reading temps with an IR gun. If you have access to a contact probe, use it. They are more accurate as they measure the temps directly.
