Seems like is WAS the bolt. Each shock went it's own way and the eyes on the ends are open with no bracket attached.

I love the analysis in the adjoining statement: "we're pretty certain it's not the single bolt holding both of the gas-bypass shocks in place, as bolts generally hold everything on every car in place". Huh? Now that makes sense.

Link includes close up of suspension prior to failure. You can see why it failed, probably not a bolt.
look at the 2 minute 35 second of the video and pause it. you can't see the bolt coming out of either shock. how could it not be the bolt? it was only a single shear set up
