Great Deals on the net
Great Deals on the net
I've been seeing a lot of ridiculously cheap items on the net. I do a little research then find out its a hoax. For example, just today in CL in my area, 2003 Kubota sub compact tractor, loader, back hoe plus 60" belly mower for $3800. I do some emailing for more info...then its gone. Same thing with this car I was looking at. BARGAIN...then poof! gone.
What gives?...anyone?

Yep - hate to say so, but probably all a scam. They know the things people are looking for (including our trucks) and create an ad or even a webpage & holdings or brokerage "company" that is later found out to be a complete scam. It's crazy. I've really had to watch it with photographic equipment, so much so that I've decided to buy *in person* only from real Mom & Pop run camera shops in the future. Plus it supports a slowly dying breed.
On Craigslist, there are things you can look for to spot these scams:
- No location
- Weird "keywords" written on the bottom
- Pictures with the little "eBay" camera watermark in the bottom right
- The only text is what appear to be specifications copied directly off of the manufacturers website
- You email them, and they reply back "I'm not living in the US at the moment, so you will need to work with my shipper...".

Thats the big down fall with craigslist. Scammers tried to get me to buy a car but they were in the UK and wanted me to wire them the money!!!
I laughed and told them i would get right on that. Its just as bad when you are selling item too. I wont leave a phone number with my listing just an email i set up just for if i am selling something. They get your number and they wont stop calling. I wish there was a way to get rid of them!!!!

At wifey's insistance, about two years ago, I responded to a CL'er who advertised a one year old 4-wheeler for about 1/2 what it should have gone for.
The reply.........
The "seller" was in Iceland, and would ship it to me free......
If I would contact his "shipper" with my information.........Yeah.....Riiiiiiiight.
