6 on, 4 off, 8.5 hour shifts, start times for the six days generally 1500, 1400, 1230, 0830, fifth day 0545 and then back in same day at 2230 for midnight shift. Not a great pattern for sleeping .

Right now I work 4 10 hour days, 3 days off.
Shift is 1pm to 11pm, Sunday through Wednesday (normally)

This weekend I get to do an overnighter, 8:30pm to 6:30am, Saturday night.

I'm currently burning off unused vacation by taking Monday's off.
Thanksgiving and day after are company Holidays.
Next 2 weeks will be interesting:

Sunday - 1pm-11pm
Monday - Off (10 hours Vacation pay)
Tuesday - 1pm-11pm
Wednesday - 1pm-11pm
Thursday - Off with 10 hours pay (Holiday)
Friday - Off with 10 hours pay (Holiday)
Saturday - 8:30pm - 6:30am.
Week 1 40 hours regular pay 30 hours Overtime Pay .

Sunday - Off
Monday - Off (10 hours Vacation pay)
Tuesday - 1pm-11pm
Wednesday 1pm-11pm
Thursday - Off
Friday - 8:30pm to 6:30am
Saturday - Off
Week 2 40 hours regular pay.

My sleeping patterns will be severely out of sync for the next 5 weeks.
Once the Holidays are over, it will hopefully get back to normal.

Day shift, 7:30-4:00, oil refinery maintenence, unless we are doing
a shutdown then 7-12's or 6-10's until done, sometimes 6 weeks. ugh!
They won't let us work more than 16 hours straight anymore, then you
must be out of plant for at least 8 hours. Actually the last shutdown we
did was 6-10's, bosses and leadmen worked 12's, it was better
organized and we got just as much done, I liked it.

Mostly 0600-1800 M-F sometimes more, sometimes less... but on call 24/7. Most weekends are jacked up one way or the other but that's the nature of the business.
Luckily, I get paid to be a little "cranky" .

I worked 12 hr day/night shifts for 6 years. I liked working nightshifts - no bosses around and such. I doubt very much if I could go back to it - too hard on weekends and the sleep pattern.

I guess ya'll are taking a lunch break that the company won't absorb. We're 24/7 , don't claim lunch or breaks & just eat when we have time and work 8hr. shifts monday thru friday then 12 hour shifts on saturday & sunday which lets 2 shifts be off on the weekends. 4 workers/classification. Sat-Fri workweek. 28 day rotation so everybody gets some nightshift.
Days & Nights...mon-fri off weekends
Swing 1...sat & sun day 12's and mon & tue evenings
Swing 2...sat & sun night 12's and thur & fri evenings
This leaves wed evening as the 21st shift & pays OT
It's not too bad, been working shift since 1979.

Man,,,,, I'm looking for the day when I only have to walk to the mailbox to get a paycheck!
You can say that again, I've got 5 more years next month.

I know the feeling. I loved it for the first 9 months. I would only sleep a total of 6 or 7 hours on my 4 day off. On my days on I only slept 4 hours. Then I hit a wall and had to start sleeping more.

I am not a morning person and prefer the swing or night shift. Just found out my manager is shipping to the east coast for two weeks, so I have to drag my behind out of bed at 0300 till his return .

12hr shift. 4on / 4off. days (0500 - 1700) one week. Nights(1700 - 0500) the next week. Been flipping from days to nights every week for 15yrs now except for plant shutdowns for 6 wks every other yr. Then operators work 13on / 1off, either straight days or straight nights, whichever we choose, until the plant is running again. $$$$$$$. The shift sounds bad and it is on married people. High divorce rate amoung Chemical Plant operators. But the money is good and the benifits are better. Lots of time off. A week of vacation gives you 12 days off and I get 5 weeks a year. What the heck, I guess I'll come back to work tomorrow. I've been here for 3 hrs tonight and haven't had anything to do but go to the end of the internet and back. I guess its not all that bad

I work a simmilar 12hr shift but its 2 days and then 2 nights followed by 4 off.
Shifts are either 6-6 days or nights. One nice thing is that I only need the alarm clock for the two mornings then I get 24hrs off before the first night.
As you said 1 week vacation time = 12days off.
