Check out the eTrex Vista HCx. Runs about $250 at gpscity.com
Color, mapping, autorouting, DC plug available. Really nice unit.
With the newer SIRFIII chipset (what Garmin calls the high sensitivity receiver), I have not needed an external antenna (I have 2 units with the new chipsets). If you do find out you need one, most units have a connector to add an external one.

Because A: I'm usually :broke: and B: I don't need mapping

I got a Garmin Etrex Legend a couple years ago with the idea of Geocaching.
But I keep it in my truck and use it as a map follower which allows me to find my way out without leaving bread crumbs when I get "lost".

I run it on NimH rechargable batteries, and get around 10 hours from them.

Are you thinking of GPS IFR approaches, or just finding your way in the air?
I have a Magellan Roadmate 2000. It is a portable hand held. Plugs into a 12 plug in the truck. Batteries last about 3 hours before need to plug in.
Will show speed, altitude, and Lat/Long on one of the screens. It is about $200.00. Look on the web, and there are refurbished units available.
Dangerous Dave, did you do any Geocaching? I am going to do some. There are so many caches close by. I will use the Magellan.

Geochaching

ChrisR
Geochachin, is a treasure hunt using a GPS. I just found out what is last week when I was back in Ohio.
