Got soap?

I need advice on cleaning my engine……..went off road on Saturday and ended up at a place where a bunch of guys were running through a 4 foot deep mud bog. Well…..I could not resist and made several runs, even pulled a Chevy out who sank all the way down to the bottom.

Anyhow, my engine is literally coated from the soup. It is gonna take a trip to the car wash to get all that stuff out. Can someone tell me anything that should not get wet or be wrapped with plastic? How long should I let the truck cool down? Are there components that should not take the spray directly? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I will post some digital pics around lunch time.

Thanks a million,
Tom

Also, when you spray your under-cairage, make sure that you re-grease any fittings, such as sway bars and so on. A pressure washer can remove most of the necessary grease.

One other thing, when I was in the deep, my brakes started acting wierd. It seemed like I would barely touch the pedal and it would go down on it's own with little or no pressure......wet sensor maybe????? That stopped happening but my emergency brake is still very hard to set. Probably gunked up with mud. Hey, how is Dodge with warranty issues related to off road driving?

Thanks again,
Tom

Dang I don't miss those days at all. As far as Dodge on warranty issues, pretty much the second you drive off the lot they'll void your warranty. Just be sure to cover the Alternator and the fuse box and you should be good to go.

Just approved the pics.

As far as warranty and off road, my opinion is if it says 4X4 on the tailgate, then by gum it's going to be offroad.

Anything that breaks while offroad though would probably be considered a "wear item", therefore not covered.

Phox.....thanks for aproving the pics. On my way to the car wash now. Tell me, did I get carried away or does this look typical for off road laundry? BTW.....not a drop got inside. As this is my first 4x4, I can say I am enjoying every bit of the $$$$ I pay to drive it every month.

Good to see your administrator, they been killin' me at work...not even enough time (Lately) for DTR.

Take care,
Tom

that's not mud, that's just dirty water.

Wait till you get clumps of grass and weeds, maybe some small limbs and sticks up in there.
Open your hood and find a fish or frog floppin around on the valve cover.

I have a light misting of that dirty water on mine right now, gotta get into the deep stuff again.

After seeing your engine, I now know why they make an air filter.
God bless the man who thought of it!!!

I'm going to move this down to "Other" now that it isn't a "Help! Emergency".

Guaranteed, it will rain tomorrow now that you've cleaned it.

I used to take mine fourwheeling all the time. But I got tired of spending the entire next day cleaning it (I'm an extreme neat freak). I'll still go to pull someone out, but anything other than that is just to risky. What with cops and stuff.

If it were my truck I would pull the wheels and check that the vents in the brake rotors are clean and not clogged with mud. If they are and you do not clean them out you risk the chance of the rotors warping.

Geez, by the looks of it you might wanna open up your airbox also to make sure you don't have any water in there! Maybe just change your air filter too...
