I think that some women think adding power to an already powerful truck is pointless, but that's just because she isn't into trucks and doesn't understand why you would want more power. It seems fine to her so why change it? Well, the same can be said for clothes and jewelery. I think expensive sparkley things with no function other than "bling" are pointless. But if it makes her happy, as long as we can afford it she can have it. Compromise is everything.

Man, I should follow my own advice.....
I don't know, I think people are waaaaaayyyyyy too tied up in material things these days. My wife and I try to live as humbly as we can. Maybe some people would call us boring, but we are happy. My wife has her choice to drive any kind of brand new vehicle we sell, but what does she drive? A 14 year old vehicle, and she is happy. She told me the other night if I told her she could come pick out any new mega cab off the lot she wouldn't.

Wouldn't trade this for a new mega cab......................

We are just lucky I guess, in that we don't want for anything. We don't have a lot, but we are pleased where we are, and not always striving for glitter and shine. I guess people really think they are gonna find happiness in $40k truck and $400k houses, and 100hp chips, and diamonds or big tv's or whatever it is that turns you on. Personally I am very happy when I think about all the money we save when we don't bow down to the ways of this world. I am happy when summer comes and myself, my wife, my aunt and uncle, and my cousins, and my brother, all come together to help us bale hay. It is hard nasty work, but times like that and the memoreies of the fun we have working side by side in the field are more fun and precious to me than any stupid truck or chip could ever be.

I need to stop typing now, you guys are probably getting tired of my old fassion ways.

I'm not tired of old fashion. I get your point now. I agree that people are too tied up in the material and not in the important things like family, friends, and dogs...Well, those are what matter on my list. Everything I own is a luxury, which is why I'm happy when I get a new toy to play with. I agree it is immature to buy things "just to be better than somebody," but if you do it to make you happy and give yourself a sense of accomplishment that is great. Plus you could be saving money by doing things yourself (or save your truck from moron mechanics). I'm a big believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." If I buy something it has to perform and last like I want it to be it a truck or a TV. I also buy to last as long as possible hence cummins diesel. Trust me luke, you're not alone in your chivalrous nature...

Wow, this got kinda off track. Going behind your woman's back is sure to get you on her bad side... We all know we don't want to be there. Just convince her it will help the truck in some way. But if you have a woman like CIN, you won't be pulling any wool over her eyes...

I want a woman that listens to me about my truck and then buys me stuff for it "just because."

There are a few things we don't learn in school.

1. The borrower is servant to the lender.

2. As long as there are test, there will be prayer in public schools.

3. Unforgiveness is the poison we drink, hoping someone else will die.

4. Learn from the mistakes of others, you'll never live long enough to make them all yourself.

5. Most of the troubles in life are caused by what goes into you mouth or what comes out of your mouth.

6. Don't ever loan money to a friend--until you deside which one is more important to you.

7. Work hard, live simply, give liberally, save wisely

Hey, I'm done. I'm impressed with you guys' attitude!

Hey guys slow down here. I never intended to sound like I was going behind her back. She could really care less what I spend because she knows that when I do buy something for myself it has been thought out and the money is already saved up in my special acct. She does the same thing with her money and I could really care less. It's just that much more that I don't have to buy for her. All in all it's a real good system that works well for us. And by the time I got home she had cooled down and now realizes that my mpgs are going to skyrocket and the truck will be a monster. Now if I can only keep her out of it.

hammy... I dont think any of this was intended as 'at you" as much as this thread developed into a comparision of how we all veiw our relationships in regards to finances....
me and THE BOSS have three accounts so to speak, 1) ours--bills paid out of this one 2)--hers, for what ever she wants to use it for, and 3) mine--my play money... I am getting the impression that we are all pretty much the same on this..

I guess it is easy to see why folks do this, but we have one account. I balance one account and we both use it for everything. I can not imagine trying to keep up with three checking accounts, land mortgage, cattle loan, savings account...blah blah blah. That sound like way too much to keep up with. We are married. What's mine is hers and vice-versa. A bunch of my friends do this three account thing but I just don't get it.

So fellas, be careful out there and don't try to be sneaky because you will get caught.

its not actually that we physicaly keep three seperate accounts, but in a way, that is how we organize our finances. We both contribute into the "ours" account for bills and what not, and what we each have left is what is the individual "account".. does that make more sense?

In other words.. if my paycheck is $XXXX, and my share of the bills and such is $YYY, then "my account" is XXX minus YYY...........as far as how much is whos share, that seems to pretty much work itself out on its own....works for us at any rate..

We pretty much have the same system except I pay ALL bills and she pays for the kids school. So it's a wash.

Mcmopar and 4x4dually I guess we are just out of touch. My wife and I have 2 checking accounts. One that is used strictly for online or phone purchase(only the minimum to avoid service fees and whatever amount we put in right before WE make a purchase) This is strictly for security. Then one that all of OUR normal checking is done out of, all of OUR money goes in there. WE don't have her share and my share of bills. They are OUR bills. When WE got married WE became ONE.
I don't want to offend anyone, but I wish all of the guys that have his and her shares of bills and he and she bank accounts the best of luck with their marriages. The people I know personally that have had those types of banking arrangements have always ended up divorced. I personally don't know of anyone who has been married 20 years plus who has separate accounts.
Like I said if anyone feels offended please accept my apology. This is just a personal observation from personal experience.
