Have a glock 23 I use as a carry gun. I prefer 1911s but cant beat the price/reliability/durability of a glock, opinion may change when I get my SA mil-spec

 

I carried a Springfield XD for a while in 40cal. However, after building this Colt up. Its the one that I go for every time. I couldnt ask for a better gun, just maybe a couple more just like it.

Oh, and you can get all kinds of Glock accessories at Glockmesiter.com. I know they have the Pierce grip extenders for the mags, and they might also have the +2's as well.
I like the +2's on my model 26 mags.

My advice....stay away from cheap holsters. I recently saw a video of a Fobus paddle holster that was EASILY broken during a training session where one person was trying to remove a Glock from the holster of another person. The holster broke and the "bad guy" ended up with the gun.

If you're going to carry your new G36, get a quality holster like these:

Sidearmor
Comp-Tac
FIST
Milt Sparks

There are other good ones out there too, but the main thing is to get a QUALITY holster. I would never use a cheap holster like Unkle Mikes, Fobus, etc. for anything but shooting at the range.

Yes it does, but there are better options out there. One of the most popular rounds used in both civilian and law enforcement is the Speer Gold Dot 165 gr. JHP. A relatively new breed of ammo that is supposed to be VERY high quality, yet very reasonably priced, is Double Tap ammo. It uses the exact same Gold Dot bullet as the Speer but it's at a higher velocity. I've never shot it but I plan to order some due to the great reviews I've heard on it.

 

I use Winchester Ranger T "law enforcement ammo" (which is a dumb term cause there are no LE restrictions on ammo). It's the new version of the former Black Talon.

 

I like my Corbons. In testing, shooting phone books, the hyrda-shok's mushroomed minimally, but the Corbons turned into "abstract art". Those rounds were so mangled it would be a surgeon's nightmare, if the perp lived, but more likely to give the ME a challenge.
This is good because you don't want a protection bullet going through the target and possibly hitting an innocent in the back drop.
I have heard the LEO's prefer Hydra-shook because they will go through car doors and such. I hope I don't need to shoot through a car door or other to protect myself. I figure if there is an obstacle in the way, perhaps I can retreat.

Most everything goes through a car door. Whatever you do don't depend on it.

I use 9mm Luger 147 gr JHP in mine. I figure if he's still breathing after 3 of those I got 12 more for him.

They are usually loaded to +P specs.
OK to shoot occasionally, but I wouldn't want to feed my carry piece a steady diet of them.
Also wouldn't want to have to use them too much in a nighttime firefight.
I normally get a pretty spectacular muzzle flash.

That being said, my Taurus 92 is loaded with 16 of 'em along with 2 spare 15 rounders along side.
Hydra-shocks in my LTW Commander though.

 

Federal HydraShocks lose their jacket as they penetrate. When a bullet loses its jacket, it loses the "cutting" ability that the jacket provides. While these pictures of the HydraShock do LOOK narly, it isn't desirable.

Instead, I prefer to use Winchester Ranger T. It holds its jacket and has a VERY mean star pattern with VERY sharp points on the sides. Sharp enough to cut up my fingers when I removed these from the water jugs I was shooting into.

Yes, you are right. I shot a pitbull that had the wifes cat in its mouth one morning with Hydra-Shocks. The bullets went straight through of course but the jackets had seperated.

I was using a Ruger 44 Magnum. Two rounds. Both through the back facing down. Exit wounds were behind the stomach and 1 through the rib cage/chest. We had berber carpet so it was easy to find the slugs afterward.

The carpet cleaning guys freaked when they arrived to clean the blood up.

It was all a big misunderstanding in the end. The dog we got from a friend that was moving and the cat was the wifes pet. The two had played together rather well the days leading up to the incident. I was sleeping away when I hear the wife screaming like her legs were being sawed off and the first thing I did was grab the pistol and run down the hall figuring we had a burglar. I was awake maybe 20 seconds and it was dark. I was so goofy I could not even find the light switch. I just stumbled around to the direction the noise was coming from and swung open the office door and saw the wifes hair swinging around violently and could hear the dog making a weird noise and shaking. Maybe growling. I could not see the entire dog, only the back half and the top half of the wife. Her lower body was blocked by the desk. I figured the dog had gone haywire and had ahold of the wife so in an instant I walked closer to the dog and shot it. It let go and ran toward me so I aimed at the head but the bullet went into its back. It actually keep running and ran right past me out the door and into the den. I went after the dog but the cat came running by and the wife started yelling at me asking what the heck I shot the dog for. I was still just waking up good and could just barely even talk. My ears were ringing like crazy. The office was small and the 44 was loud in that small room.

I figured out the dog had the cat and not the wife, but it was too late. The dog was on the couch in her favorite spot and bleeding like you never saw. Blood was everywhere. Carpet, couch, pillows, everywhere and lots of it.

It took him about 5 minutes to die. Looking at me the whole time. I was bummed. The wife was running late to work so she had to get going. She left and I drug the dog out onto the side porch. There was blood trails everywhere. I waited until the carpet cleaning people got to work and called them. They came out, saw the blood, saw I had been crying ( my eyes were still red and puffy ) saw the drag marks of blood leading outside, saw the bllod all over me and my clothes, and probably figured I had shot the wife or something. Until I showed them the dog in the trash can, they would have never come in the house. They were scared. I dont blame them, I would have been too.

That was a really good dog. Broke my heart to look at him the entire time he was dying. What a drag Being shaken out of bed by a screaming woman before the brain is fully booted up is not good. Not something I ever want to have happen again. Then I got to explain to my buddy who had given me the dog what happened.

But, yes your right the Hydra-Shocks will seperate from the jacket pretty easy.
