I've decided to do a little research on my dads side of the family. Using info from family members, I can go from present day to six generations back. After that, I run into a wall......at least for free information. I've come to the point of paying to get into databases, but don't want to throw my $$$ away. Has anyone out there tried the pay sites to do genealogy searches? Which one have you found to be the best?
Thanks in advance,

Is free and has been a good source for me. Just have to register. I have found info here that I couldn't find in the official records. They also offer a download that has been handy,,,Personal Ancestral File (PAF) is a free genealogy and family history program.
I hope someone answers your original question about the pay sites. I'd like to know, also.

My wife recently subscribed to Family Tree Maker with Ancestry.com. She was pretty excited about it for about 3 hours. Than she ran into roadblocks and now feels like she got ripped off. Its not as easy as the commercials indicate and she feels like she was doing just as well with the free version. (familysearch.org and ancestry.com are both owned by the LDS)
