Re:garage floor to paint or not?

I've considered the epoxy floor paint myself, but I have a very smooth garage floor. I'm wondering if a little rain water or melting snow would make it a nightmare to walk on. Can't you etch the concrete with some diluted HCL, then leave it like that, or must it be finished?

Muskrat

Saw a segment on that very topic on the local early news this morning. Epoxy finish is the way to go according to them. Have it professionally done too. Cost was $2-4 per square foot and was usable in 2 days. Preparation is the key. The home version was cheaper but took a week to cure and be usable. Friend of mine painted his and was sorry he did. He drove his truck on to the painted surface on hot day and pulled the paint off when he backed out the next day.

I owen a Ceramic tile flooring comp and have seen lots of Epoxy floors installed and I for one would go with the epoxy
it stands up to most every thing and will last a long time.

Epoxy is the way to go. Preparation is the key! You have to thouroughly clean the surface first with a good detergent and allow it to dry before painting it. Also temperature is critical, never paint at 50f or below. Some epoxies even want warmer air than that to cure properly. It will be slick if wet!.
There are additives you can put with it to make it less so. I would consult with your Local Professional paint dealer and see what he suggests. Then do it your self, as long as you mix it properly and use a good roller you shouldn't have any problems. 2 coats is always best but read label as to how soon to recoat.

They used an epoxy paint at the plant to paint all the concrete floors. It was aboit $140 a gallon but it is very tough stuff and holds up well.

Re:garage floor to paint or not?

We painted both our driveway and our garage cause my mom was tired of looking at the oil stains. Guess what? Instead of oil stains now, there are a bunch of tire marks up the driveway cause when it gets wet, it gets EXTREMELY slippery. Plus more oil stains. The garage is the same way. I personally wouldn't do it. But if you do, go with an epoxy.

With $150K overhauls what's a measly $140 a gallon. It's all a matter of relativity. Sort of like CTDs and BOMBing. Right DD4x4?
