Friend's new gasser

Alright...after much debate, my friend has settled on a 1/2 ton chevy silverado. He wanted a diesel, but his dad is paying for the truck...so he's stuck. Anyway, what mods do you suggest that we put on this thing? My friend has pretty substantial savings, so he can do a lot. I thought he should add headers, exhaust, chip, and intake. Any other suggestions?

I'd recommend one of the custom ecm programming jobs like Westers over any chips/programmers for the GM trucks. LS1.com has links to the guys that do it.

Well if he has a pretty decent savings........I'd say throw a supercharger on it!! Chips and intakes don't do a whole lot on gassers as compared to diesels, but a supercharger will make a night and day difference.

i totally agree and since i live here in Fresno,Ca i am only 8 miles from Whipple Industries and let me tell you what. those little 5.3litre vortecs run pretty darn good witha whipple supercharger. my buddy has one with only the 6psi pulley and he runs 12.3 to 12.4 all day. i would definetly go with the supercharger. nice thing is, its STILL SMOG LEGAL

5.3 or 6.0?

Either way, id go with a patriot performance cam(or tsp), headers, tune, 2800-3200 stall...
Should make some decent numbers.

ls1tech.com has plenty of good info
also performancetrucks.net

Whipple's are cool. I have a friend with an whippled powered 6.0 in a shortbed that is running 11.0s in the 1/4. He also has ported heads, ZO6 cam, Diamond pistons, converter, headers and the other usual mods. The truck is totally daily driveable.

If the 1500 is going to cost his dad, say, $30k and the diesel is $38k, why doesn't he just pitch in the $8k and get the truck he wants? He may have to trade off some of the convenience options to bring the 2500 within reach, pricewise, but he'd have the truck he wants...

I bought mine at Dave Smith (buy all my rigs there, buddy is a manager there) and I got mine for $31k before my add ons. Plus I got my rocker panels, spray liner for FREE. they treat me well, they picked me up at my house and I brought my labs! they were also in the closing room with me!. Although it is an all day affair, they are really busy, only downside.

that was long before all these incentives you are seeing now. with all these incentives I have considered buying a new one, but I love my 03.

Is that up in Idaho or where are they located?? I've been thinking about getting a new one, but that sticker price out here is a buzz kill!!!
