Free food: cheaper than paying advertising?

we talked about free chicken in the Free KFC thread

a few weeks back, Arby's had a free burger, and now:

Free Sonic and Chic-fil-a!

Sonic
Tonight - Wednesday, June 3
Free 10 oz root beer floats
8 pm - Midnight
(Charleston-area Sonic Restaurants)

Chick-fil-A
Complimentary breakfast entrees.
Monday, June 8: Chicken Biscuit
Tuesday, June 9: Chick-n-Minis (three-count)
Wednesday, June 10: Free Cinnamon Cluster
Thursday, June 11: Chick-n-Minis (three-count)
Friday, June 12: Chicken Biscuit
7 - 9 am
(All Charleston-area Chick-fil-A restaurants)

I don't know how effective advertising is, because you don't know who it reached. but you definitely know how effective free food is, because they walk through your door.

we had an outdoor concert, and advertised on 5 local radio stations.

we had NOBODY show up, it was pathetic.
and most of us NEVER heard the ads or heard it included in their "community calendar"

we gave away burgers & dogs, maybe we should have stressed that over the music?

I passed one of the local sonics with the animated signs and caught something about free root beer floats.

Had no idea about the free float thing till we pulled into Sonic tonight to get a gift card for someone. That place was packed! Most people just showing up to get their free float, didn't see a lot of food coming out.
