found 2 trucks for sale---have ?

ok guys, need your opinions. My wife and I were surfing and found 2 trucks in my area that we may try to get one or the other (our ability to get a loan greatly influences chioce also).

1.) 98 dodge 4x4 quad cab cummins 5 spd 8' box... until I call the guy thats all i know. $14,900

2.) 1990 dodge reg cab reg box 4x4 auto with a plow. same as above havent called yet but emailed to get pics. $6500.00

Wasnt sure if the 90 is a intercooled motor or not. and a 90 is the same body style as the truck of the month right? ( the newest looking of the old style?)

any help would be great !!!

love this site!!! kid tested----wife approved!!:confused

well, I think 93 was the last year of the older stile bodies, 1st gens. 94 was the start of the 2nd gen stile and, 98 was the 2nd gen with upgraded interior, with the quad cab option. If it were me I'd go with the 98 cause of the newer cab with the quad cab, opening back doors. but its really up to you.

Not all 98s were quad cabs. Not all 12vs were club cabs either.

Just as a rule of thumb, don't buy anything that has ever had a plow on it. I've had 2 vehicles that had plows on them previously, and some buddies have had trucks that were plow trucks. Not a one of us failed to regret purchasing the former plow truck. When shopping used, if I find out it has had a plow on it, I politley say "good bye" and walk calmly away. Don't stop, don't look back.

The 1990 is non intercooled. Unless someone upgraded it.

Plow trucks tend to have bent and cracked frames, as well as the obvious damage to suspension..... Look VERY carefully before buying one...

98 for 14,9 sounds a bit high. My 01 6spd HO was 14,9 although it has high miles and is 2WD.

Shy away from the the 90 auto unless it's clean and low mileage. The gears in both axles are irreplaceable 3.07's. They can't be swapped without machine work either. Having plowed, if you here it clunk in the rear when you shift into gear. Run like the wind. Don't be scared of the early version of the engine, I like mine. No overdrive either. Not necessarily bad unless your on the freeway alot. Also has a lower grade cooling system if you want to tow alot.

Also, check both for oil leakage at the front of the block in case it got bit by the KDP. If the 98 is a 12 valve, tell him that's the earlier version and maybe you can talk him down and still come out with the better engine......

ARE YOU CRAZY!!!! thats super cheap ecspecially if its a 12v i paid $18,500 for mine with 80,000miles on it. . one dealer in pennsylvania told me he had more calls on this truck in one day than he had about any of his cars all year and sold it to a guy in cali. remember the 98 12v quad cab is the rarest of all dodge cummins
