Ford got smart!!!!!

Saw a commercial for the new Heavy Duty Ford trucks and they now come with a brake controller from the factory. It's about time! Now the big 3 need to step up and say "Lets go ahead and give every truck a spray in bedliner and tie-downs too."

It's an option, though. $205 by itself, $425 with the tow mirrors. Of course, it does have the advantage of looking "built-in."

Even if it is an option, I think most of us would pay for it as long as it is a quality unit. I do know that some here swear by the one that they are using and will accept nothing else.
I just think it's time for the auto makers to start putting the things on these trucks that 90% of us go and buy for ours in the first week of ownership....

Not to mention, how many people don't know how to install an aftermarket brake controller (or any other common aftermarket part for that matter). It gives them a nice alternative.

Good Idea, should be part on any makers tow package. At lease ours have the harness to make it simple.

"Ford got smart eh?"

I wonder if they still have to pull the cab to change the back injectors?

If Ford has such good ideas then why don't they sell a bumper with the truck? Maybe they changed, but when I was looking for a truck a rear bumper was an option? Dumbest thing I ever heard of so I went to see the frendly Dodge boys. They threw in a bumper! STOCK!

More comprehensive gauges would be nice, that's for sure. Like someone else noted, plugging a brake controller in on the CTD is pretty easy with the pre-wired tow package stuff. Gauges are a bit more work. But the gauge comment applies to just about every vehicle out there, in my opinion.

Brake controllers for the Dodge are almost plug and play. I use my old Hayes controller I've had since '94. Built in brake controller sounds like built in expensive when it needs to be replaced. I like Dodge's "keep it simple" attitude with their trucks.

spray in bedliner is what id like to see.......not the dealer charging 500 for it or trying to sell the plastic ones

The only company Ive seen do this is Nissan, not that Id ever buy a Titan but its still a good idea.

I do agree that it is easy to install your own controller in our trucks. It took me a whole 20 minutes just because I didn't know where I wanted to mount it. Just don't laugh at the extra holes in the dash where I mounted it the first time.

I remember having to pay for a rear bumper too. I think that was when everybody was lifting their trucks really high and had to get the aftermarket ones that hung really low for DOT reasons. I guess the auto makers said "To heck with putting a bumper on then!" Do they still charge for the rear bumper?

I think the best part of the factory brake controller is that it fits into a spot on the dash where you can actually reach it while driving.
