Firefighters
jay's got the union thing down pretty good id say. youlls best bet is to talk to some other unions that are about your same size or have similar resources. since you are relatively new, theres alot to be gained from some dept that have been dealing with it for a little longer

some jobs shouldnt be based on race or gender quotas. it should be who did the best on the test, cause when it comes down to it, if you cant drag someone out of a burning building then you shouldnt be on the job, just cause you got ***** or speak spanish dosent mean you are prequalified to be a firefighter.
5 years ago I had a major surgery that removed 2/3 of my right lung. (Dirt bike) I recoved almost 100%. I do the same amount of lifting and running without problems. Just the fact that I had that surgery would it hurt my chances of becoming a emt-p and firefighter even if I can pass the physical fitness test.
as long as you pass the est i think you will be ok but most department want to know about medical issues that may hinder you so with that said they may look down on that but maybe the other guys know more about this than i do.
probably not. especially if you wanna be a paramedic. i know we have to do some lung capacity thing where you have to blow in a gadget until your completly out of breath for some reason! if you can pass the tests, and your doctor approves id say your good to go!

Not on the medic, but on the FD I don't know about other cities, but the retirement board would be leary of accepting you into the system because of it, and if they don't accept you, you don't have a job.
