must have been a big car fire if it took 1500 gallons to put out. dont most commercial trucks carry extinguishers? im sure it wouldnt have been big enough, but come one...raw sewage

No fun - but at least they had presence of mind enough to stop and help out. Hope the 18-year old recovers okay...praying for the families!

We did something similar with our spreader truck at work a few weeks ago to put out a fire, it's a self loading truck , so we loaded it in the river , backed up to the fire and let er rip.

A few years ago out here, a small warehouse caught fire in a little po-dunk town with no water reserves, meaning everyone was on wells. The closest town was about 10-13 miles away. They had 5 departments running their tanker back and forth. Well they couldn't keep up with it and the fire kept on getting bigger and bigger. So they called the local cement factory adn they got their cement trucks getting pumped up with water. BUT when you use a cement truck to haul water, DO NOT put it through a brand spanking new truck or make sure there are no rocks in the cement truck.

Sure is lucky to be alive, sewage or no.

I think I'd rather have burnt to death.

Once the flames started tickling your behind, you'd change that notion is VERY short order.

From personal experience (The flames, not the sewage).... I second that!

I don't mean to make light of a serious situation but I have to say taking a mother's advice to wear clean underwear in case you have an accident wouldn't have made much difference here .

Yes , anyone familiar with serious burns knows infections are a major concern .

they did a very good thing, but stop and think if they would have acted first and not waited for the cops to get there would the drive still be alive? i know in our line of work we can't think like that cause it will rip you apart. But just think about it, and when the time comes for you to be in their shoes act fast and as safe as possible you don't have much time. Remember it could be you or someone you love it the car think about it like that. but again i am not saying that they were wrong cause they did a very good thing.
