Finally got my dream job!!!!
Finally got my dream job!!!!
I dont know if anyone cares or not but im really happy and i just thought i would post up.
After many months of trying i finally got a job driving a dump truck (its really hard trying to get started driving a dump truck in my area). Its something ive wanted to do since i was a kid and today a good friend from high school called me and offered me a job driving for him and his dad. The biggest thing is ill be driving a tri axle ford L-8000 with a big cam cummins.
Ill be getting up at 5:30am and working 12 hour days, 6 days a week, with no air condition in the truck but i cant wait to start working on monday morning.
Now im one step closer to owning my own dump truck.
I also cant wait to start working on it. Im gonna straight pipe it with dual 5" stacks and get the jake brake working. You know youve been bitten by the diesel bug when you start customizing a work truck thats not even yours.

Old bull to young bull.........Congratulations...........now don't get in a hurry.
A fully loaded tri-axle is capable of exceeding 80,000 pounds gross and the Jake IS a necessary part of the braking system. The service brakes get hot quick and will fade out when you're loaded. Stay away from the straight pipes, you'll need those ears later in life. With no AC the windows will be down and you will want to hear the radio.

Congrats man! I have only been working at the place i am at for a month, but I HATE it. Mainly the people I work with. I would love to drive a dump truck every day. I think it would be fun!

You will get to hear enough of the cummins with those hours and with a sraight pipe you will have a real nice headache by mid day if you are driving much.
I do like to listen to the N-14 i run ! But without the straight pipe.

Im gonna try the straight pipe thing, if it doesnt work ill put the stock stuff back on. I love the sound of a straight pipe cummins andi never get tired of hearing it. I guess you can call me young and dumb.
Oh and I am definatly gonna work on getting the jake working. Should be a pretty easy fix. Right now we will be working at an I40 road project and theres hardly any road driving, only a 3-4 miles total trip. Oh and the air condition is gonna be fixed soon.
In a years time you will not be the same. You will want more power, a newer truck, on and on we have all been there.
Oh ya then the OTR bug will bite. Then you get sick of OTR and back to around town. Memories
. Anyway have fun

My son drove over the road for several years then decided he wanted to be home on a regular basis, found a job driving a belly dump running from the mines to the concrete plants, makes great money but is starting to tire of the idiot drivers on cell phones that are not mentally able to talk and drive at the same time.
(Phoenix traffic sucks) Still a good job, congrats on getting the job you wanted, I have the job I always wanted just did not realize how much stress one can have working for a lot of rich people, and have been doing it for 40 years, I should be used to it by now.

My bro drove a tri drive perterbuilt with a 550 cat with 7 inch straight pipes on it. The jake sure barks when u going down hill with a 70,000lb light plant on board and ur pulling a tandam jeep and 16 wheel Hi-boy trailer
