F-150 Horn and Cruise Problem

The SIL's 2000, F-150 has horn and cruise that don't work. The cruise is no biggie, but the horn is needed for state inspection.

He's been told that it is probably a switch or connection underneath the air bag. Has anyone had one of these off? I don't need a bloody nose from a runaway air bag!

Pull the airbag fuse and it wont depoly.

That said, When I pull them and put them down on the bench, I make sure they are facing up and out of the way......

Just rig him a horn button on the column somewhere. That's what I did on my TJ when I changed steering wheels, and it has passed inspection.

I told him this morning that another button may be our option.

Sounds like the clock spring has broken, it should be right under the steering wheel. To remove the air bag the service manuals say to disconnect the battery for 30 mins.

It's really pretty straight forward. Pull the bag, pull the wheel, R&R clockspring.

Assembly is reverse of dissasembly.......

Don't sound too bad. He'll be off in a couple of days and we'll tackle it.

I don't know how similar it is, but I had the same problem with my 94 F150. Pulled the steering wheel and replaced the clock spring, solved the problem. You'll more than likely need a steering wheel puller to get the wheel off.

I have a puller around here somewhere......I think. If not, I'll borrow one from AZ.

If I remember correctly the cruise and horn are on the same fuse. Are you sure its not just a blown fuse?

We checked all of the fuses and can't find a blown one. Might just replace it anyway.
