external voltage regulator
external voltage regulator
So.... I have this generator, it is an old honda E800. At idle the thing puts out around 10- 12 vdc. If I connect a battery the voltage jumps to around 15 volts (no increase in throttle). If I increase the throttle the dc output simply goes up to 16-17 volts (it would go more but I didn't want to burst the battery). talking to a honda parts guy he says this is pretty much how it operates.... in addition this model isn't on any books he has from some research the engine dates around '75-'78 and parts are scarce to non-existant.....
the question: older dodge trucks somewhere around the 82 - 85 vintage had an external voltage regulator mounted on the fire wall. what are the chances of connecting something like this to the generator and having a regulated output that won't over charge a battery?
The alternative is simply to have a battery charger and run the generator at full throttle to charge the battery.....
