Explorer Sport Trac 4x4 - good or bad for Pops?
Explorer Sport Trac 4x4 - good or bad for Pops?
my Dad has a 2000 Ford Ranger 4x4 (lives bottom of a hill in mountains of NC). great truck, just did some maint on it, at 83k miles, and still running strong.
but he's got a wild hair that a new Sport Trac would the ticket for him
he's also got a new (year old?) Explorer, and I say it's just the same thing.
he's retired, on fixed income, but he can afford, but, on other hand, i told him it's always nice to keep YOUR money in YOUR Pocket.
he's of the old school "100000 miles and it dies"
i think that little Ranger would do 200000 (with some maintenance that would cheaper than a new truck.)
he's got a small garage, won't fit and don't need a big truck. there's no need to offer recommendations, a'cause he is as stubborn as SpunBearing
so anyways, any major reasons NOT to buy one of them?
(other than it's my inheritance?
)

2. That Ranger or an Explorer either one will easily last 200,000 mi with good maintenance. My last Explorer, a 91 had 215,000mi when the front axle went out. It was getting pretty bad, So I didn't rebuild it. It was a shared vehicle for my 3 teenage kids.
So I think they are pretty tough. My oldest daughter just bought one for herself, she liked it so well.3. The only major reason not to buy a Sport Trac, is That tehy are ugly
