Explain this.

OK Im lacking some information here. I thought Turbo Diesel's need higher compression pistons for better torque. Explain this to me please.
"Turbocharged diesel engines must have low compression pistons in order to produce high horsepower. The lower the compression ratio the less wear on rod bearings and the lower the internal pressure will be when the injector fires. High internal pressure is very detrimental to the life of a piston. When you see a piston with a hole burned through, it's not the fault of the injector it is a result of internal pressure."
Excuse me if this is a stupid question but I had to figure it out. Thanks

SD03

Re:Explain this.

Total hogwash. Lower the compression enough and there won't be any wear on the lower end.

Re:Explain this.

Lower the compression and compensate with a turbocharger to raise pressures.

Re:Explain this.

SD03-
When you're reading Bruce Mallinson's articles, keep in mind that they're aimed at big rigs, not pickup trucks. Those engines get worked a lot harder for a lot longer, and they need to hold together or the owner/operaters who run them will go broke. He's talking about 2000 ft/lbs of torque that lasts for a million (literally) miles.
