Exhibition of Acceleration-you know youre guilty
Does a ticket for 110 in a 45 count? I was 17. Had to apear in court. Don't know why my parents didn't have to be there. I got off though. The case before me was a lady contesting the radar and the judge made them bring it to the courtroom and the cop blasted the wall and it said the wall was doing 80. My case was next. It was the same cop, same radar. I said I had a clunker and there aint no way my car would ever go that fast, although it had allready done more. So it was dismissed.
Never got busted for burning out though. I do have a couple of good burnout stories. Used to have a 72 GMC 3/4. Had a 396-4 bolt that I had built myself. Had no idea how much hp it had, although when i fired it for the first time, it twisted the stock trans input shaft off with the first tap of the gas. Thats when i got into building my own auto. Got it done and it was one heck of a monster. Started with some back tires off a bobcat. Pulled a buddy out and it grabbed about a 2 foot square of asphalt and tossed it through his back window. it was too funny for anyone to get mad.
Then I got some real skinny mud grip tires off a buddies grandpa's truck. On a hot July day, taking a date home, she asked me to bust it off. The tires dug strait down into the soft pavement. I liked to never got that truck out before someone came.
I picked up some spare rims from someone and one of them had a 12 ply tire that was bald. We decided to see if it would blow up on a burnout. We tried, but it never would. The smoke was so think you would have thought there was a forest fire. The tire actually was melting. The rubber was soft enough to scrape off. The next morning I went out with a floor jack to take the tire off and the floor jack seemed to not be lifting the truck. After some really good pumps, it finally popped up, but pulled a hunk of the curb that was now stuck to the tire with it. That was probably 20 years ago. It was in front of my parents house and every time I go over there I still look at the spot. The black mark finally faded about two years ago but the hunk of curb is still missing.
Another good burnout was at my brothers work one night. I had the bobcat tires back on but they were completely slick by now. The smoke was so bad (or good) that there was an old man there with asthma that had to be taken to the hospital.

17 years old and a 74 Nova, not a good combo. Besides all the "regular stuff" I got hit once for over acceleration. I had a set of street drags and launched it pretty hard at a red light. I did not speed or break traction but he had to come up with something to fine me for
Fast forward 11 years ( had kids, no real money to play) I got hit for 107 in a 55 in the wifes car.
I was tuning it with EFI Live on a nice long straightaway and there was a state cop under the bridge. I tried every excuse I could come up with and nothing worked. I did get it reduced to 26 over and 5 points in court.
I do not really mess around in my truck on the street. Not that I do not want to but those 35" Cepeks are salty and I cant afford to buy them prematurely. I have smoked out my fair share of tailgaiters and riced out Civics but usually I am a good boy in the truck. That darn car of hers is another story...........

The best one was many years ago when I was newly married. I was hauling groceries home one night in my nitros injected, corvette powered, camaro when a pickup load of punks tried to start some "stuff" at the last stop light in town. When the light turned green I dusted them off like a pesty nat and kept flying low. About a mile later I saw the red and blue coming so I stopped and waited ( can you say busted). The LEO checked my stuff and then said " The only reason I'm not giving you a ticket is because I can't prove in court which one of you was going 80 m.p.h." Weeelllll, me being young and feeling pretty smart replied " I know that wasn't me I was going WAY over 80!!".
The LEO left mad and I left laughing, God must have really liked me that night!

I've never had anything that could make noise leaving a stop light.
Still though, with my hopping-up the truck in the last few years, my luck would have something break so I don't bark the tires period.
The neighboring county has had a terribly high number of teenagers being killed this year in traffic related accidents. To think that the NCSHP would not be into such "displays" would be an understatement at best. My luck would have Jack doing the paperwork.
It would hurt my feelings to have them turn my truck into a large, heavy brick.

The truck in the sig is not that fast, but I had a Yamaha FZR1000 that would really go. Was going home one weekend (about 90 miles away) and made it there is 42 minutes. Turn to head into town and there was a 3 mile stretch of divided highway and wound it up to about 155 mph, then saw a cop hitting traffic coming out of town, hard on the binders, at 120 mph I was lifting the rear wheel braking so hard. By the time the cop got his radar on me I was doing 60 mph. He just shook his finger at me...
and let me go...
and let me go...
I got three of those several years back when i was stupid..
They were all the spinning tires from a stop.. but they called them three different things:
Excessive accelleration.
Neglegent driving.
Wreckless driving.
All three were from a stop, and afterwards the car never topped 30mph... guess it just depended on the mood they were in that day?
25 and havent been ticketed in 7 years *knock on wood*.

One day back in the early '70s a friend of mine wanted to go for a ride in his blue '69 Chevelle SS 396. He had come back from 'Nam, but was crazier than when he went. It had *teeny* front tires and *wide* rears. He told me a list of upgrades it had among which were a blueprinted and balanced engine, Hooker Headers, a Muncie Rock Crusher Transmission and dual 4-barrel Holly Carbs.
After a few burn-outs, he asked if I'd like to drive. Of course! I said. We took it out on the Baltimore beltway. Suddenly, there was a green 440 6-barrell Plymouth pulling up bedside us itching to go. My buddy laughed and told me to change to third gear, rev it up to 8 grand and pop the clutch. I swear it felt like the front end came off the ground at 60 mph!
Never saw the Plymouth again.
