Ethical Question, Need some advise
Hey guys, need a bit of help.
Around the first of January I was laid off from the drilling company I worked for (jerks!), anyway my old boss told us that he would get us paid until the 15th of January, he tried to get us paid until the end of January but big wigs shut him down. On the 15th I got all the final paperwork, notice that health insurance was going to end on the 30th, and I got my final expense check.
So here is the dilemma. The wife was doing the online bill pay thing and discovered that there is a direct deposit in our account which is for the second half of my January salary (15th to 30th).
Soooo should I call them and tell them about their mistake or shut my mouth and let them keep paying me, or.....?
What would you do?
P.S. I asked my wife what to do and she said keep the money.

Call them.
They may say it is correct, make sure you get the name of the person you talked to.
You never know when you might work for them again, and you never know when you might run into someone who knew about this in another company.
Best to play it straight.

It is illegal to take money that isn't yours even if it was put into your account in error. Definitely call and get it resolved. I read an article where a couple received a large bank deposit and took it, moved to Florida. Well now they are on big trouble for taking the money that was not theirs. The amount was somewhere around $200k. Good luck on what you decide, you will have to live with it.
Is it right to keep money thats not yours?? even if its a Big Co. would you think it right if someone kept money that you sent them by mistake?
ethical? Right is right wrong is wrong, what gos around come around, Carma ,God,,your self what ever you believe its still wrong .
I would call ! you never know , you might get to keep it . or you you could get to spend time in a colder place .
Good luck hope you get to keep it

Call them and check on it. If it is an error and they discover it, they can reverse it from your account. It is better to be up front and honest about it for your own conscience. And it may get you a stronger reference for you next job.
If you like people capitalizing from your mistakes, then keep it.
Personally, I don't like things that aren't right hanging around with no resolve, especially something that can come back to haunt you.
Bring it to their attention, see what they have to say about it...
Peace of mind is priceless...

I'd call them at least, you never know they might hang up after being notified of there error and question why they let you go. Or your boss may have gotten it pushed through for ya and you just don't know it yet.
