Unhappy E-bay or NOT ????

Hey all, I dont want to get in trouble for listing something in the wrong area, so I will only ask the question......I have decided that I want my 1st gen gone.......I want to know what you think my best plan of attack is, do I advertise it in books and here in the classifieds or do I just grow some big ones and put it on E-bay with NO reserve ???? I am sick of listing my tractor trailers on there with a reserve and have a hundred phone calls about what the reserve price is......I'm a big boy, and I'm NOT affraid to take a chance without a reserve, but do you think there are any serious buyers for a 1st gen that SHOULD be worth higher dollars...ie 10,000-12,000 ???? Maybe it's NOT worth that, but I see people bid on complete JUNK, and sell it for 6-8k ???? What do you think ???? Canucktrucks.....Hope I did'nt say something that is wrong, just asking and stating my opinion.....Shawn

From having sold a vehicle that was worth alot more than KBB...

You can use ebay as a $50 ad that gets nationwide attention, and lots of it... but set your reserve where you want it! TDR & DTR classifieds seem to be ripe with trucks that are above KBB value, because of impeccable maintenance, or perfect body, etc...

My car was worth (top KBB value) $17,000, the bidding went to $20k, but I sold it for $22k.. it had alot of mods... my 3 serious buyers all saw the car on ebay, and we negotiated the deal off-line. The buyer actually lives in Oregon, and had the car transported from here in NC.

Point is, ebay is a great ad tool, but your typical buyer there is looking for a deal, and it's a place where alot of auction trucks are unloaded.

Simple solution. List it with no reserve and set your starting bid amount at whatever the lowest amount is that you want to take for the truck.

Setting a starting bid is the same as setting a reserve in my opinion since that is the least amount you'll accept.

Yeah I hear ya, I just want to be realistic, I know they are hard to find, but maybe there also is'nt anyone other then me that like these 1st gen's........I cant bring myself to start the bid out at what I think it is worth......To be honest I'm NOT sure what the heck they are worth, asking and getting are two different things......it also seems like certain weeks there are more 1st gen then other weeks, I dont know if that is good or bad.......I am NOT trying to beat this topic to death, I put alot of hard earned effort, time, and NOT to mention MONEY,into this truck, I would just like to try and get most of it back, and see it go to someone that will appriciate the truck........I am TOTALLY obsessed with these trucks, it has almost taken over my life, I wish I could find one that someone bought NEW and has basically never drove, I contacted a guy over on the OTHER site that was at PDR's 1st gen day, he has a twin turbo, 93' W350, he wants 20k for it and says it nice, but NOT perfect.......I really dont know where to turn or what to do.........But I have SOLD two of my other Dodges, and want this one gone too.......I will re-evaluate at that time..........This is worse then any gambeling disease......

I'll never understand why someone wouldn't list their reserve. I list my reserve on all my reserve auctions. Or, I'll list something at the minimum I'll take and not put a reserve on it. OR, I just list stuff low w/ no reserve and see what happens.

Whenever I see an auction listing that says "don't email me and ask what my reserve is!!!" I just move on to something else... I'm not gonna waste my time watching an auction and bidding if I don't know what the reserve is.

You have a good point, I can say I like to know the reserve as well.........but I never said I was'nt screwed up right now !!! I guess a lot of people figure it's a spot for a deal.....I was just wondering, if they see something clean, do they also step up to the plate ???? Or do they just pass it by ????

I figure I won't bid on something if I don't know what the reserve is, so I figure nobody would bid on my stuff if they don't know the reserve.

Do be afraid to ask for what its worth. I'm not sure what the market for 1st Gens is like out east, but in the west, a good 1st Gen will still easily pull 10K or 12K. Last year, Dad's 90 Reg Cab 4x4 3/4 ton sold on the dealer lot for 12K, and while it was in perfect mechanical condition, the body/paint was not as nice as yours.
