E-bay bidding???

Need some help with E-bay. Bidding on a personal watercraft, and basically asked the seller three questions concerning the boat AFTER I had already put a max amount.

Seller e-mail back and only answered one question??? I've since fired back another e-mail asking for a honest and direct answer to my quesions.

Am I stuck with this???? I want to be upfront about the transaction, or is this person leading me, or rather helping me place my head further into my posterior?

Bob, pay with a credit card if you can. You will have recourse with Visa or MC if what you bid on is not what you get. I am not positive, I think the only true thing you get stuck with if you don't want to buy is a bad reputation. Who gives a pile if you don't get ripped off in the long run.

I just bid on a polisher on e-bay and ran into the same situation(less $). Seller less than forthcoming and I got out bid.

Still got those darn fine scratches...

You still in for PHX?

I want to, but I'm still waiting for my brother to settle his affairs and bring me "onboard". So for now, I'd have to say, yes, still planning to come down, just wouldn't etch it in stone.

is the bidding over ?? if not, do a bid retraction. its been a long time since i had trouble on ebay and had to retract but it can be done. i think u have to retract a certain amount of time before the auction ends. if u have time shoot the guy another email and tell him u need answers to your questions or u will retract your bid and see if that works.... good luck, scott

Yes you have a day before the auction ends to retract a bid if you are not comfortable with the potential buyer. If he is not answering his emails honestly or at all, then that is just cause for a retraction. It will ask why you are retracting the bid and this is one of the reasons given.

Thanks for the quick replies guys, I'll give the guy until mid morning to answer me, and then if nothing, I'll do a retraction.

Many people frown on this....and you should always do your homework before you make a bid....but you can always retract your bid and as a last resort, if you do win and change your mine, you can just not pay. Of course your name will be smeared with the Ebay folks, but that's better than spending a lot of money on something that ends up being something you don't want.

Its better to do a retraction than to just not pay the guy. If a item sells the seller pays a listing fee and a percantage of the final price. Its better to just retract. I have never ran into a seller who had a problem with that.

hoss ....... the retraction has no feedback towards you at all. the only person that knows you retracted is the seller. and the thing with not paying and ebay frowning on it ....... thats pretty much a bunch crap.... if you dont pay the seller will surely rip you a new butt in the feedback and ebay gives you a slap on the wrist. its a 3 time and your out kind of deal with ebay. then all u have to do is sign back up with the wifey's info. i went through this with a non payer on a motorcycle. he claimed his 15 yr old son bid on the bike figuring it would just magically appear at the house... well i dont know any 15 yr old that dumb so i went through the whole non payer thing. that is a nightmare ( unless they changed it ).. atleast ebay gives u back your seller fee.

True the retraction has no impact on your feedback but it is available for all to see on your eBay id card. If you have positive feedback and limited retractions I wouldn't worry about retracting the bid. If you have a ton of retractions this may not reflect positively to sellers, assuming they check (not likely IMO).

I do a lot of homework before I bid on anything on Ebay so I HOPE this is never a problem for me, but if I ever DO have to refuse payment for whatever reason.....I really don't care what Ebay or anyone else thinks about my doing so. If I'm refusing payment it's for a good reason. Whatever that reason is, it will be more important to me than negative feedback or a slap on the wrist from Ebay.

With that said, you really shouldn't bid on anything unless you've done your homework on it and you plan on buying it if you're the winning bidder. I've have 100% positive feedback on Ebay for good reason. I've also never had to GIVE any feedback that wasn't positive. Just do your homework and you'll be okay 99% of the time.

Sounds like Magnum was TRYING to do his homework, but couldn't get a satisfactory answer from the seller. It is definately better to do a bid retraction than to just not pay. I would not sell to someone that had a negative feedback for failure to pay. People do make mistakes, and bid retractions are common.

I didn't intend to suggest that Magnum didn't do his homework, but he DID say that he was asking these questions AFTER he had already placed his bid. In this case, if the seller was not giving me satisfactory responses then I wouldn't hesitate to retract my bid.

Hey guys,

Really didn't mean to stir up a hornet's nest. Hoss is right, I was pretty stupid to bid B4 getting ALL the information. As it turned out, I was ready to go get the thing this morning, seller sent me an e-mail with about 2hrs left on the bidding, and got some ok answers. But luck was looking over my shoulder again, and somebody else outbid me with less than a hour to go.

My last experience with E-bay, bought an ATV, and the guy was REALLY a champ, went out of his way for all my requests and his WORD was good as gold. I was probably just a little nervous about tugging on my ears and hearing a loud popping sound from my own stupidity.

Next time, I'll be more careful

Thanks again
