My first house was heated with electric and a wood stove. Not a bad combo 15 years ago but the cost of electricity is through the roof these days as well.... I pay almost as much for it as I do fuel... Can't survive without either up here....
Warmed to -32*. A regular heat wave.....
EVERYTHING is expensive now I think. Even wood. If you have to pay anything what-so-ever for it, you're better off just paying an oil, gas or electric bill. By the time you pay for the wood, then cut it, split it, stack it, dry it, UN-stack it, burn it then play with ashes and cleanings of the chimney, how much time do you have into it? Time is money and I know I can spend my time a LOT more productively! I realize there are circumstances that would require one to burn wood, especially if someone had their own woodlot, but there's still a lot of time involved.

I dont mess with wood anymore and I get it for free.
Dont know why but I thought you guys didn't get thunderstorms during the winter.
They are loud!! I have one from a school they were tearing down. Works on DC or AC. Years ago my son connected it up to an old timer from a Mr Coffee and hid it under our bed.
He was so lucky he had already gone to school before it went off.
Hmmm, never worked on a cat dance.
Yeah. Hows that ankle doing anyway?
Rats. chaikwa already beat me to it.

Everybody has to learn, some just take a little longer.
Ohhhhhh.........
That's an easy one. I've been alone for 3 weeks. Do you want me polishing the chrome on a new toy or changing the oil in the truck?
You don't need to encourage her.
She's got enough of her own ideas.
Video that too, I haven't seen a double feature in years!
And y'all think we're INCORRIGIBLE.
Afternoon all.

Well, I'm sitting here 'working on a project' and waiting on dinner to simmer out - tequila lime chicken.
Dog got a bath. No more stinky dog...yay.
Turned on the fireplace too...ahh ambiance.
Put the first batch of jerky in today. It's a citrusy teriyaki. The second batch is my bourbon chicken marinade (but with Sailor Jerry)
Hmmm, I see a pattern....

Jeez Marc, -38 is waaayyy too warm for ice cream. Still in the lower digits here as well, but not nearly as bad as yesterday. I must be turning into one of those "outsiders" I have no ambition anymore if it turns cool. that said, everyone else has plenty of ideas to keep me moving.
Wood is still cheaper than heating oil. If you use the cord of wood = 100usg of oil, wood is 200/cord heating oil is 4.98 /usg. that's 498 bucks worth of heat for 200 dollars. Not a bad trade off. I do agree that re-handling kills. That said, consider it value-added. It keeps you warm when you cut it, again when you split it, again when you stack it. Then it keeps you warm when you transfer it to the wood chute, then again when it heats the house. How many times does oil do that? You also get the benefit of exercise, fresh air, and the best part of all... NOBODY bothers the guy with the running chainsaw.
Anyway, enough for now. Have fun out there.

well bacon/moose tenderloin or not, the winds here are steady at 30 and gusts to 72 nice to have free air travel to alaska, but I am staying home tonight.
Marc, you are getting things broke because you post about bacon wrapped moose tenderloin. nothing breaks when you just hunted it......lol
let me know if your wife wants wine. take some extra days off, snicker snicker

Dont mind running around with the chain saw and hockey mask but the rest of it is work.Had something weird happen a few hours ago. Everybody (ok not many, I have no friends) in my yahoo contact list got e-mails from me wanting them to click on a link.
The link is to that fake Russian anti-virus program that actually infects your computer.
Funny thing is, my computer is not infected according to Avast, Malwarebytes, Microsoft security essentials and the Microsoft malicious software removal tool.
I just recently signed up for facebook because of my Daughter, and a visiting niece just used my computer and says she went to facebook but had accidentaly
signed on to my account since I had not logged off from yahoo
(guess they are connected nowadays).Only thing I can I can figure is my yahoo account got hacked.
Any ideas?

I have this idea that you're a yahoo.... does that count?
Other than that, I am one of those anti-social networking types. I haven't tried facebook, and don't think I'm going to bother. Regular e-mail works fine for me, and a phone, no matter how many gadgets, is still a phone.
Freakin neanderthals......

I agree. Like you, I prefer talking for a short while on the phone or having short letters.
Now, thanks to my Daughter and Son's prompting I am apparently full of viruses and social diseases.
I cough on you all

As far as the wood goes; to each his own I guess. I think if I had all the extra time to fool around with wood, I'd either sell it or get a second job and buy the oil. Either way I'd end up with extra money in my pocket instead of just a pile of wood.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
If you place a small value in yourself, (your work, product, service), rest assured, the world won’t raise the price.
Coffee's on.

Morning sleepies. I'm dragging hard. I want to go back to bed. Stayed up late last night and woke up at intervals to check on the jerky I've got going. Didn't want to overdo some pieces.
Got in a little weight workout too last night. That felt good.
